Starting point is 00:00:00 The following podcast is a dear media production. Welcome back to the Not Skinny Bonafat Podcast. I'm your host, Amanda Hirsch. And I still can't believe that I get to chat with some of my favorite stars of my very own podcast, where you'll feel like you're just talking shit with your best friends in your living room. I don't like being in the situation where I don't like being in the situation where I have. have to be like, um, what's it called? Conventational.
Starting point is 00:00:32 I'm good at it, I think. You are. Like, first of all, with my family, I'll fucking murder. If anyone has ever mean to know up, please. Run for a fucking chill. No, seriously. I'll fucking, I'll whip a kid at the park. Like, no, seriously.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Get! Get! Seriously. Get! Seriously. No, the things I do, you guys, you would literally, like, if his cousin is being mean to him, but also, like, let's just remind the people, you can't and ask the Uber driver to turn the air up.
Starting point is 00:01:02 Yeah. Yeah. Limits. That's what she's here for. Limits. Like, no, that's what I'm saying. Or I can't tell the fucking girl at the salon, like my scalp is on flags, you know? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:14 Should we remind people I speak Spanish? Guys, this is why I'm on the show to. So everyone knows that Amanda speaks pretty good Spanish. Like, pretty good enough. I love how you're with the fucking. Pretty good enough to, like, have a full conversation with me in Spanish. need to move to Miami because when I get to Florida, everyone speaks Spanish there, and I just feel like I'm sliving. I mean, you speak Spanish with the person that does your blowout.
Starting point is 00:01:42 Like, no, and some people don't roll with it because they think I'm a gringa, you know? But anyway, back to being confrontational. Sometimes when I have to be and with people that I don't feel as comfortable, if it's a stranger or somebody I just met, but you know, like, you have to put your foot down. I swear to God, you guys, I black out. Like, I don't remember what I said. But you said the perfect thing. I said the perfect thing. Literally blackout.
Starting point is 00:02:06 And by the way, like, and I think we see this sometimes on reality TV when people like fight and stuff, but then they'll go back to their room and cry. Like, that's me. Yeah. You know what I mean? Like, I'll, I'll be there in the moment. I won't fucking be a pussy, but I'll spiral. But I'll spiral, which you know I will spiral. I shall spiral.
Starting point is 00:02:24 Should we tell people why we are wearing these awesome goggles today? Yeah. I mean, Amanda just book the craziest guest. Walton fucking Gaggins. That is actually Rick. You guys, is actually Rick. I mean, White Lotus. What's the new one, Hummet?
Starting point is 00:02:46 No, we've talked about this. Wait, you know something crazy. What? Shep and him should do ayahuasca together. You think he does drugs? There's no way a human being is that calm. No, I know. needed. I need it. By the way, I want to tell you guys for real, I could talk to him for a very
Starting point is 00:03:03 long time. And when I say I could talk to him, I want him to talk to me. I want him to raise me, perhaps be my zaddy. Well, you know that episode of New Girl where like Nick is like in the pool and he's getting wrong. That's you and him. Like I just want to be his child. Like when I was like, yeah, my kid is wild like jumping off the wall. It's like one day. Like wait till you guys hear this interview with Walden Goggins because, you know, I am inspired. by him. And I'm loving an era for any actor or actress that they're getting like their kind of big, big moment at age 40, 50, 60. You know what I mean? Like, I feel like it just gives so much inspiration to people. Like, you're so used to, like, thinking, oh, you didn't make it
Starting point is 00:03:48 in your 20s. You didn't make it in your 30s. Like you're fucked if it's like you're 30. Like those timelines. Those timelines for like, screw like the baby husband timeline, but even the career timeline. Well, yeah. Whereas I'm here to tell you, Walton's here to tell you, fucking so many people that are doing amazing things. Not at 20, not at 30, 40, 50, 60, whatever. You guys, it can happen to any. It looks like we smoke. You guys, fucking chill.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Well, remember when I asked you, like, when did you start the podcast? Because I was like, oh, my God, my life, blah, blah. And you're literally 13. Because I was like, what were you doing at my age? And you were like, nothing. No, nothing. And seriously, you don't understand how. how, like, wait, okay, I'm fine.
Starting point is 00:04:32 You're fine. Especially, like, in New York, people are just, like, they see everyone, like, doing so many big things and becoming millionaires at age 13. That it's just, like, why am I not a millionaire? Yeah. But then there's people like you that just like, you're like, Regina, you're fine. You're not doing anything, but, like, it's fine.
Starting point is 00:04:46 I, until Noah was born, which was 2020, so how old was I in 2020, 36 minus 31? Was that, like, a compliment supposed to me? Well, remember when I met you and I was like, wait, you're 30? I thought you were 27. Thank you. But I really think, like, whatever age, the success comes, you know what I mean? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Fucking just have, the only thing I would say, like, if you can try to, like, gross, but, like, manifest what you want in some capacity. Yeah. Like, for me, I always say it's, like, it was on the sidelines. It wasn't my main event ever. But it was, like, no, I'm going to keep working towards us. Like, slowly but surely, like, maybe something will take, maybe something. But, you know, I saw this really powerful. thing I both said yesterday, which also reminds me because, you know, like you said,
Starting point is 00:05:33 like you see other people doing shit in any industry, at any age. Yeah. You can be like, why are they doing that? Or like, somebody's doing something you want to be doing or somebody's doing something you are doing. Nobody brings what you bring to the table. Regina. Booth girl. No, seriously, I'm getting therapy.
Starting point is 00:05:53 I'm getting therapy. Continue. Wait, for people that don't know, Regina is my assistant. Yeah, bitches. fucking sending your resume. I see them. I do get threatened. Stop. This is my job. You know, I'm clocking. I'm clocking them all.
Starting point is 00:06:07 No, I know. Save, save, save. Yeah, guys. Stop. You didn't teach Walton how to save stories to drafts. I was going to say something. But anyway, I will give you a compliment before we go. Roll the camera. Regina is. Skinny.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Stop that. What? Who does that that? Regina is in the... How long have you worked with me? A year and a half. We're so cute. She's literally like a little sister. Yeah, I know. And we're literally like...
Starting point is 00:06:47 She's like part of the family. Like, she could easily just, like, be wherever we are, like, the most... Like, you annoy me like a little sister, which I asked you today. I was like, do you annoy your friends? I know what everyone, my ex-boyfriends, like, is annoyed by me, my friends, my parents, everyone. But it's really special that you find somebody on the street who can fit right into your life. And it's, like, seriously, the only advice I have ever, be annoying guys, like, that's how I got it. Be annoying.
Starting point is 00:07:16 Well, by the way. Stalker. Well, not even her. Be annoying, period. That's how I got it. Fucking that's how I got it. That's why when you say it, I'm like, you're like, interesting. But it's really about.
Starting point is 00:07:29 We say annoying, you know, people that persistence. Yeah. I know you don't have the vocab here. We heard CHEP last week. I'm ESL. I'm ESL and you forget about it. Low. No, I would want a higher vocab too.
Starting point is 00:07:42 I also have to enunciate my words more. Like, a lot of times I talk so fast that I'm like, you miss a syllable, you know? But it's like in Spanish, too. Like you talk so fast because you're just like, blah, l-l-l-l-l- Right. You know? But in Spanish, it just pops off better. But here you were like, Zen, like... Because he's made me Zen.
Starting point is 00:08:03 No, it's going to go home and he's going to be yelling. You're like, hey, Angel, please. First of all, you know that I'm like that. You've told me that before. It's like the, guys, seriously, if we could get Andy in a camera in Amanda's home, it's the craziest thing ever. No, we'll be yelling about, like, the most random thing ever. And Amanda is just, like, not even flinching.
Starting point is 00:08:19 But you know what? I think that's, like, the best thing that you can do as a parent is be so patient. And, like, it's... But it's crazy, guys. She's only patient with her children. That is it. Again? Well, that's good, though, at least there.
Starting point is 00:08:30 Boundaries, yeah. Wait, can we talk about, speaking of Andy in a camera, that post that I saw that was, like, because I was just at Aaron Leachies, Brits, she just said the baby, Lindsay was there, which, by the way, the fact that Lindsay was there, ain't no mistake, ombre, because Lindsay is a smart-ass fucking bitch, okay?
Starting point is 00:08:51 Yeah. Lindsay, don't forget she had Hubhouse PR. Oh, cr-R- Yeah. Now, Aaron's not a dumb-ass bitch. She's my friend and lover. She's smart. She's a business woman. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:59 This might be the meeting of the minds of Lesby Friends and we could be the new Roney. And so I saw somebody post because I posted a picture with Lindsay and the baby and they were like Amanda and Lins for Roney. And let me tell you something, guys. She's never going to do it, but trust and believe, I remind her about it every day.
Starting point is 00:09:20 And I will start the rumor. I will start the rumor because I want to be right there being like... Well, you know, the thing is that that I love about Lindsay, because I want to be right there. So you guys, if Regina ends up fired, you know why. You'll be like, oh, the thirst. Well, but this is what your problem. You're not thirsty.
Starting point is 00:09:39 I'm not thirsty. You're not thirsty enough. Like, this is what I do when we go to events and stuff. I have my index finger on her back pushing her to say hi to people because I know these people know her and she tells me she's like, oh, I talk to her on Instagram all the time. But she's like, but I don't want to go say hi. I'm embarrassed. So then me being a crazy Latina being like stopping embarrassed.
Starting point is 00:09:58 to me to Jerry Seinfeld. Guys, she knows the wife. They talk all the time on Instagram. Like, you can go say hi. You did that to me to Jerry. Okay, you did that to me when Jerry Seinfeld, Jess Seinfeld, who I do talk to all the time and I love her and I believe she likes me. They were saying with Bethany Frankel chewing tuna salad in their face. Amazing, gorgeous.
Starting point is 00:10:18 What literally. Jerry is like, mm-hmm. In my head. No, I had the tuna salad brisk. Guys, Jerry Seinfeld talking to Bethany Frankel was the craziest thing I've ever seen. And then I get like a. Yeah. I pushed her.
Starting point is 00:10:28 I pushed her. And then I find myself in this four-way convo, me, Bethany Frankel, she gave a some T, Jess, and the, and Jerry. Then, uh, then, uh, then uh, nada. And then me, like, we, I wouldn't let her leave until I went up to go to talk to Adam Sandler and, like, tell me about the podcast. Guys, I'm crazy, but I'm crazy for the business, you know? No, she was like, let's go to Adam Sandler.
Starting point is 00:10:53 Now, Adam Sandler, let me tell you guys, before we get into the interview. Adam Sandler, and I happened to be at, like, three places that, right, we saw him at the premiere, and then I saw him somewhere else. I saw him at sushi. He was just, like, all over recently. Because he's all over. Oh, I saw him at the SNL 50 concerts that I went to. That I didn't get invited to.
Starting point is 00:11:14 He's the guy that everybody comes up to. Like, you'll see a bunch of celebs for some reason. Everybody flocks Adam Sandler. So I kind of just feel bad for him that it's like he's a nice guy, so he's not going to say no. He'll take another picture, another picture. So when Virginia was like, we need to get on the pad. Like, I'm going up to him and I was like, no, you're not. You're not.
Starting point is 00:11:30 You're not. What would a normal person do? Not that. I didn't even ask. I didn't want to picture. I was literally talking business. I'm not going to let you, I love your audacity and your chutzpah, but I'm not going to let you pretend that on this like nimble little shy person, okay? I got here from being fucking daring and having hutzpah and putting myself in rooms and fucking being annoying.
Starting point is 00:11:52 Yeah, but sometimes. However, I don't want to look like a loser if that's why you're referring to. And I seriously. please, what do you mean, guys? Anytime I'm trying to do some, I'm like, I've heard of nuts, skinny, but all fat. And it works. I was at the box, was like with that guy from Summerhouse.
Starting point is 00:12:08 Even what? Yeah, and I was like, I'm Amanda's assistant. Like, guys, if you have something, use it. Like, you don't ever know what happens. And if you find yourself fired, then don't question why you did. Okay, anyway, you guys, oh my God, these glasses give you a little bit of a, a bit of a twist. Should we go ski?
Starting point is 00:12:24 We should go ski and we should jump. jump right into my conversation with Walton Goggins. So proud of you. I'm, I love him. So proud of you. I love you. I love you. Enjoy you guys. We'll be right back after the break. You guys, I cannot wait to go away for spring break or Passover or Easter or whatever. Where are we right now? I should do it right here. Check that out. And I do my own sound.
Starting point is 00:16:57 Yeah, I was going to say. You do give like musician vibes. Have you ever dabbled? Dabbled. Yes, but but for my ears, for no one else's ears. But, you know, there was a time where, you know, three chords in the truth, three chords at a version of the truth. Right. Was in my repertoire. Yeah, I pick a little guitar, but really just, just for my. It looks like you do. Oh, yeah. I just give off that energy. Right.
Starting point is 00:17:24 In a good way. But we're like more of kind of like... Jamming out. Jamming a jam set. Oh, like a jam band. A jam session. A jam band. So not, I mean, is it Zeppelin?
Starting point is 00:17:33 Is it the Rolling Stones? It's rolling stones. Okay. It's maybe like Johnny Depp has a band. Like you would have a band. And Johnny Depp, yeah. You would have a band. Okay, fantastic.
Starting point is 00:17:44 We love it. We just made up a whole story. That's what I'm going to do. And they're all going to be wearing gogg glasses. The name of it. my band is Walton Goggins' goggle garage band. That, by the way, was so hard for me to say. I have to be honest, I might have, like, my brain can be dyslexic sometimes,
Starting point is 00:17:59 so I might have twisted it and did, like, Goggins Google. I was like, oh, it's a Google. Yeah. I thought I went to put them on and I was like, do I have to press something? Yeah. Like, am I in the Google verse? That's coming. That's the 2.0 version. Yeah, it's a screen.
Starting point is 00:18:14 You know what else is coming out? That little twing of yours is coming out. It is coming out. Yeah, it is when I'm tired. It comes out when I've been drinking. And today I have been drinking and I'm tired. Today you have? No.
Starting point is 00:18:27 I'm joking. Walton Guggins is here, you guys. Huge, huge, huge, huge. Huge. I'm so excited that you're here. I'm so excited to be here. And you said you're so tired. No, I say that like it's a, we've just kind of been at it.
Starting point is 00:18:40 We're in the middle of doing Fallout season two. And it's no joke, you know, that those days or it's a, it's a heavy lift. in the best way. But, you know. Where do you film that? Well, we're filming this season in and around, I mean, in Los Angeles. You know, we're based kind of out in L.A. And then spent a lot of time out in the desert.
Starting point is 00:19:00 We were in New York for season one, New York in Namibia, but we're out west right now. And you're based like in around New York? Well, I am now. Yeah. I was in Los Angeles for 30 years. And my wife is from L.A. and son born in Los Angeles. And then like so many people, we decided. decided to just do something different in the pandemic.
Starting point is 00:19:22 And we moved. Oh, was the pandemic times, really? Yeah, it was. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And how you're liking it? I love it. Really? We have a place.
Starting point is 00:19:30 We have 125 acres upstate and they're an apartment here in the city, but we live upstate. And I love it. And the winters? Well, you know, it's nothing against Chicago, you know, or Toronto. Yeah. But those can be really tough. I don't find winters here to be that brutal. They aren't.
Starting point is 00:19:49 I think they're very gentle. I mean, it's bad, but they've gotten much less worse. Yeah. With the help of some. Yeah, with the help of some emissions. Hey, God, because I remember I grew up here and I used to be wrapped from head to toe. Like the gloves, I once bought like a face mask. The goggles would be good.
Starting point is 00:20:09 Like the whole, I would be covered. I wouldn't care about what I look like. Now I could be like a p coat. Right. Don't even need a scarf. Right. It's a different kind of thing. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:18 I just find that the seasons here are so gentle. And nature on the East Coast is certainly in the Hudson Valley is not so dissimilar than the Cotswolds, you know, in England. And it's one of the few places in America that has that feel. And I love it. There's a season for everything. Never going back to L.A.? Well, I'm in Los Angeles now. Now you get to go, but like to live.
Starting point is 00:20:44 I don't know the answer to that question, but I never say never about anything. But I hope, anyway, that there's a chapter beyond the chapter that we're living right now. I love that. I think I would like to keep, we've talked about this quite a bit, and we like this hub, you know, but our spokes will continue to move in different directions. And there's a, I think, a chapter of my life where, you know, I want to be 15 minutes from the Mediterranean for, you know, six or seven months out of the year. And so we'll see. I don't know. Life is short and life is long. I love that. I love not knowing. I also pretend to be like that, but I end up staying in the same place.
Starting point is 00:21:23 I'm like, who knows where I'll be next year and then I'm just in the same place. But I love pretending that it might change, you know? Yeah, right. Yeah. At least I'm like putting it out there. And where is that place? New York. I've been here. Right. You know, I'm like, maybe who knows? I can't sign a lease for two years. Yeah, that's true. I'm going to know where I'm going to be. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:40 How old is your son? He is 14. 14. 14. So he's good to. travel with like he's oh he's the best yeah but he's always been good to travel with yeah just i mean ever since he was a little kid it's like he would much rather be uh he would either rather be at home or on the road uh to go out at home is really not his thing but he's a he's a great traveling buddy and we're actually taking a a huge trip to mongolia together you and him a solo wow that's so special he's special i love that i have that i have
Starting point is 00:22:15 two boys. I'm still in the... I do. You have two boys. Two boys. Just boys around me. They're wild. It's five and ten months. The five is like... Yeah. Wow. The five is like at that stage of just testing. Yeah. Testing. Yeah. You get all these gentle parenting reels that are like, he's having a tantrum. Get on your knees. Right. Yeah. Link. Like we didn't have that back in the day. No, no, no. You know? No. You just winged it. Yeah, you winged it. Yeah. But look, you're saying he's a great kid.
Starting point is 00:22:49 And here I am looking at these reels, you know, trying to get down on the knees, link twice, whisper, whatever, until I go crazy. It's not working. This isn't working. Let me tell you. It's not working. It's not. Let me talk to her.
Starting point is 00:23:04 I'm just got to get it. I feel like there, first of all, I feel like there is something, you know what? And I do blame myself. Like my energy is very, you know, like you kind of, and your vibe, it's very like calming. So maybe you just created a kind of vibe and energy. I hope so. And I've never, I've never, you know, I've been a parent now for 14 years. And I've never had a, like an argument with my child ever.
Starting point is 00:23:30 No, I mean, there was a moment when he was being, you know, an asshole, you know, for a period of time. And we were, his mom, my wife had to go out of town for a couple of days. And we had a conversation about that, you know, and about. two different roads that he could go down, you know, and one, your life would look like this, and the other your life would look like this. And, you know, your decision, this is like maybe the first big decision you're ever going to make. And what age was this that? He was 10. Okay. And it was just, you know, very measured and very calm. And I said, I just think tonight is a huge, huge night in your life. And he's like, what do you mean, dad? I said, well, you know,
Starting point is 00:24:11 it's a big choice. You know, you've, you know, this is. kind of how you've been acting, and you could continue to act that way, and this is probably what your life is going to look like. Or you could wake up with gratitude, you know, and really look around and be thankful for your life and participate in our life as a family, as an active member, and your life could look like this. And he said, well, I know the answer. So while you can't know the answer, like that's what's so great about growing up, right? You have to think about this answer because this your decision is going to reverberate throughout the rest of your life and he took some time and he started to talk no got to go to sleep you got to sleep on it and then i'll do whatever you
Starting point is 00:24:57 want and he woke up in the middle of the night and he said dad i thought about it i really thought about it and i want to wake up with a life of gratitude every day i promise that's what i want i want to be that guy and i just looked at him and i said you know crying like everybody else but really i just looked at him and said, wow, you are as wise as I thought you were. You are that guy. Wow, good feet. Let me shake your hand. And, you know, ever since then.
Starting point is 00:25:24 First of all that's powerful. It worked on me. I want to be that guy. Yeah, right. And I'm saving that. I'm glad we have it on video because I'm, that's what, these are the reels that we need in life. We don't have much of your time today.
Starting point is 00:25:35 And thank you for giving any of your time today because you are just, do you know the Gaggins girlies? I mean. Have you heard of them? I would be better for me if it came from you. Okay, there are, I mean, you're just, I can't open my Instagram, the TikTok, like, everybody's really obsessed with you. That's very, that's very kind of you said.
Starting point is 00:26:00 Like, it's not just, you know, a thirst trap moment or a, it's like everything. People just appreciate you for being you, for your work, for your style, for your vibe, for the past things that you've done. So it's an iconic. Do you feel this moment, kind of like, are you reveling in it? Well, I, I, do I feel this moment? I feel that there is an energy out there that is one of, like, this undulation of love. Do you know?
Starting point is 00:26:30 Yeah. And that, and it feels really, really good. And I hope anyway that it, that I'm doing the best I can to reciprocate it because it's with such affection and and this genuine gratitude that I have for, you know, all of the support from so many people from various walks of life. Right. And I love doing what I do. You know what?
Starting point is 00:26:59 I love being a fucking human being. Yeah. You know what I mean? I do, I love life. And I am, I am an intense guy and I'm a relaxed guy. I'm like all of those things. And when you're in, like, the White Lotus was really difficult. But, you know, and the best way and on the other side of it now,
Starting point is 00:27:22 on the precipice of it being released is that's a relief, you know, and a chance to kind of just be a civilian again for a little while and feel the same thing about fallout and the same thing about... And righteous gemstones out for the last season. Yeah. The final season, is it? Yeah, the final season. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And so, yeah, I'm just grateful that so many people are connecting. Yeah, connecting.
Starting point is 00:27:48 Why do you say the White Lotus was difficult? No, difficult. What I mean, difficult emotionally just because of the what this particular guy, Rick Hatchett, was going through. Yes. Not difficult, you know, working environment. Oh, got you. No, difficult just emotionally. Are you anything like Rick? Like, do you have, did you relate to him on any level? Yeah, I am. Yeah, I, yeah. I relate to him. I relate to baby Billy. I relate to every character that I've ever played. I think every actor would say that on some level you have to have a connection.
Starting point is 00:28:21 But yeah, Rick is a, I understand where he is, you know, mentally and spiritually. Yeah. No, because I too have been there. And I think most of us have, yeah. I think, first of all, physically, obviously you're him, but the style, like my husband watches White Lotus with me and he doesn't watch, like, we have different TV lives. But this is one where we can kind of come together. Oh, lovely. And he loves the style. Like, he's like, he dresses so cool in the show. And I was like,
Starting point is 00:28:50 Rick Hatchet style. Right. And I'm like, but you do two IRL. Like, you have incredible style. Did you like the clothes? Well, you know what? We talked about all of that at the beginning. I was, I was pretty early in the casting kind of process when they, they offered me. I don't know if I was number one, but I think maybe number two or something like that. And, with that came a conversation with Mike that was essentially, we don't know who this guy is, meaning like how he presents himself in the world. And Alex, our costume designer, who's brilliant, has been with a show from the very beginning. She had some ideas, but she said, I really don't know either. And I said, you tell me, and I said, I know exactly who this person is.
Starting point is 00:29:36 You said that. Yeah. I've seen people like this kind of move through the world. And I wasn't really interested in playing an idea of what this guy is, but a very specific version of who this guy is in the world. And so. So you brought a lot of the idea. Yeah, I just said, you know, I think, you know, Salvador and Gonzo journalism, you know. And like, it's a mix kind of between the two and he's sexy without being sexy. And he has the nice things that he has.
Starting point is 00:30:08 they couldn't afford to replace them if he if he lost them but you know there are times in his life when he can buy a nice watch or a nice lighter did you take anything home i did yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah we got this he got me a tiffany lighter didn't even now have to go back and look yeah it's this very specific kind of silver beautiful tiffany lighter and i took that oh i love that is there anybody else that you could see yourself playing in the cast like well you have the the accent going for you, which they worked so hard on in the Ratlip family.
Starting point is 00:30:42 Oh, right. Yeah. I know. Did you take any inspo? Because I know there was a whole story of it they took from this show called Southern Charmed. It's like a reality TV show.
Starting point is 00:30:52 They went wild though in Bravo. Right. Yeah, right. Yeah, yeah. Do you take inspo for Rick from anywhere specific? No, no. Just my imagination. Just your imagination.
Starting point is 00:31:01 I had so many questions about his decisions because you said in episode seven that you felt like you got closure. You said to Frank. I think he did. You did? Yeah. Like, as if you're always like, he did?
Starting point is 00:31:13 Well, I think so to the degree and one can get closure to the degree that one is able to not act on an impulse, right? And so, yeah, everything's in baby steps. And, you know, we'll see where the story goes. Where the next step, I mean, yeah. But I really believe, yeah, in that moment, he transcended. Yeah. What was it like acting with one of your BFFs, Sam Rockwell? You know, it's just, just that, one of my BFFs.
Starting point is 00:31:41 Yeah. It's the best. Yeah. Getting through that scene with the. It was extraordinary. Everything you guys did together was just such a pleasure to watch. It was a pleasure to do. It was a pleasure to do.
Starting point is 00:31:53 It could have taken forever. Like, how that just be the story of you both, you know? Yeah. I need your, you should do, you know, you should do a collab with because I know you're such a fan of small businesses and kind of entrepreneurship. like some collab with the calm app. I did. It's out right now. Shut up.
Starting point is 00:32:12 Yeah, I read you a bedtime story. Shut up. I can put you to sleep right now. No, tell me the truth. It came out 10 days ago. For real? I didn't even know that. Yeah, yeah. It's a story about a yard sale.
Starting point is 00:32:24 A story about a yard sale? Yeah, you could go on the calm app and you can, I can put you to sleep. I am obsessed. This afternoon. You guys. Who needs? Who needs that? It's something about.
Starting point is 00:32:36 No, I'm obsessed. Like, not that you would put me to sleep, but it would put me in a calm state. We'll be right back after the break. So the show follows Molly, and she gets a terminal cancer diagnosis and then decides to up and leave her husband to kind of explore all of her wildest sexual desires. Starting point is 00:35:02 You've always been such a hustler. I mean, now this is like a very known fact that you had this valet business in L.A., which I'm sure you talk about a lot now. Well, I have, yeah, I have talked about it just in relationship to the love that I have for entrepreneurs. Yeah. And small business owners. Yeah. Which led to this collaboration with GoDaddy to go into business with them and make these, you know, these goggles and go into this kind of business adventure together and because I desperately
Starting point is 00:35:39 believe in what it is that they do as a company and yeah I've had four or five small businesses in my life and I believe that and then the ethos of go daddy and what they are doing for dreamers and for people that uh well for people that don't know go daddy has like the that's where I bought my, like, what's it called? Domain. Right. Yeah. So how did they? Well, they have, you know, yes, they do that. Yeah. That's what kind of one of the things they're known for, but, but they are kind of like a full service company for young entrepreneurs who want to start out in business, but you know, aren't really sure how to go about it. And they have this new product called GoDaddy Arrow, which is this AI tool that will do everything.
Starting point is 00:36:31 from help you build your website to help you generate copy to populate that website or speak to your audience, to design your logo, to generate social content with a calendar that allows you to populate, you know, these channel, Instagram and all the rest of it, you know, with a real presence so that you don't have to think about it. I have an Instagram account. I don't have really anything else. I still feel the pressure to... Pose? Something.
Starting point is 00:37:07 I'm obsessed, first of all, because you have highlights, which I love. You're taking advantage of the whole... Like, you have, like, highlights. You have a Rick and Chelsea highlight. Right. Oregon Frank highlight.
Starting point is 00:37:18 Are you doing that? Yeah. As opposed to, like, do I have someone... You're right. Do you have someone help you? You do your social media. Yeah, all of it. But I know, and if you really look at it,
Starting point is 00:37:27 it's pretty simple. I know, like, how to make, like, white letters at a black box. You know, I mean, I just kind of learned, like, something new the other day. I just learned that, oh, I could put these thoughts down now and save this as a draft. Yeah. Like, that's cool. Save a draft is a great, by the way, don't feel bad about just finding out because I do that, this for a living. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:50 And it took me while to, I was like, wait, I don't need to just post it right away. I can save it for later. Yeah, you can save it for later. Yeah, but if you feel inspired in a moment and you, and contractual. You can't post it because, you know, you would get sued or something. But don't, if you're doing it on stories, it does expire. But not only does it expire, like I just tried to do a sample of that and wound up posting the story. You know, it wouldn't allow, I don't know yet how to save a draft and a story.
Starting point is 00:38:19 I can't really figure it out. I'll show you after. Hey, fantastic. Great. Yeah. Okay, so Instagram, you've got figured out mostly. How did it come about? So you had this idea and then they knew.
Starting point is 00:38:29 They were looking to partner with someone that they knew had a foot in that in that space that was really interested in entrepreneurship and that was passionate about small business. And they picked me. I have a business. Like without knowing the idea first? They said, what do you want? What would you want to do? And I said, oh, well, I wear something that I'm not.
Starting point is 00:38:59 That's something that I've always wanted to do. Yeah, I've had, I mean, I have a number of ideas, right? I mean, I imagine I live in storytelling 24-7. That is kind of my life. But, you know, ideas for businesses are kind of always in tandem with what I do for a living. I have a spirits company now. I swear, if I hit this microphone one more time, it's okay, right? How about now? How about that sounds? What about this? I'm going to do this interview like this. I'm just saying I'm not hitting it. So I don't know what's that. Well, you know what? Well, you know what? You're. talking with your hand, you're a storyteller. Yeah, yeah, I'm a robot. I justiculate. Yeah. That's what I do. Do you want us to move it? No, no, no, no, it's fine. I was just... Well, because I was wondering, like, they look like ski, right. So they said, we know, what do you want to do? I said, this, this eyewear, these, these goggles and this experience that I had at a ski resort, not too far from my house upstate. And they said, well, okay, that's a, that's a great idea. I mean, it's, eyewear is one of the most fashion-forward, excessive. that we can wear. It's what people see first. Then they said, yeah, okay, that we can make
Starting point is 00:40:04 that work. You know, let's, let's partner on that. And then we set out to do this and, you know, here we are. Here you are. Seven months, six months later. And how involved were you with like the design and everything like that? Heavily involved. heavily involved. Yeah, with every color, every band, every name. I mean, all of it. I love that. Yeah. I love it. I mean, you really don't see anything like this. It does make me feel like I need to go somewhere. Well, you know, or you're saying walk down New York City. It's like, what is it?
Starting point is 00:40:36 Well, it's a lot of fun, isn't that, you know? And kids that wear them to school get a huge kick out of it. Yeah. And adults that wear them to a fish concert or, you know, or, you know, doing a sport. But really, they just bring a lot of joy to people. That's what I've found. Yeah. You're right.
Starting point is 00:40:57 When I open them at home. my son, I was like, stay away. Like, I just knew he would see it as like, I wanted to, you know, there's just something about it that kids would love because it's like colorful and big and fun to play with and experiment with. Yeah. And so, yeah, I'm having a, I'm having a good time. And at the end of the day, what's wild that I've also heard about you is like all of this, which you've been doing this for forever, for decades, right? It all started because of an American Express. letter. Yeah. Well, I mean, you know, it was an offer in college, right, the way that you get an offer
Starting point is 00:41:35 for a credit card. And there was one, you know, for American Express. They came in the mail. And with this particular offer, if you got the card, applied for the card, you would get two round trip tickets for $99 east of the Mississippi or $199 west of the Mississippi. And this was back when, I don't know, my airplane ticket from Atlanta to Los Angeles, it's like $1,200 or something. It wasn't cheap. And I just looked at this as a sign that I'm going to go West Young, man. And it was really getting that card and getting these two round-trip tickets that gave me permission or the competence to leave college and go on my big grand life adventure. What year were you at in college when this happened?
Starting point is 00:42:28 Oh, freshman. It was my first three or four days at school. I was always going to do something. You knew it, deep down. Yeah, but this offer really gave me the opportunity to leap, a big leap instead of baby steps. It's so different today. Like that makes me think, you know, how like today with social media and everything, just people's roads to success are.
Starting point is 00:42:55 Just look different. I think just roads in general look different, you know, and I, like, what is success? I mean, there are, there are metrics for, for every type of success, I suppose. But, God, it's, in the time is, is so fast and so fleeting that, you know, if, if the metric that I like to use is, are you having fun? Are you having fun? And are you having fun all that? I'm having a ball.
Starting point is 00:43:23 I fucking love it. Yeah. Thank you so much. much for coming. Thank you so much for having me. Seriously. I love your work. Everybody does. Thank you for saying that.
