Medicare open enrollment begins this week.
gets a chance for people over the age of 65 to switch their coverage plans.
And PR Selena Simmons-Duffin reports that premiums are going up from Medicare next year,
much like in all health insurance plans across the country.
About half of the 66 million people enrolled in Medicare are in what's called
traditional Medicare run by the federal government.
The other half are enrolled in Medicare Advantage, where private companies manage the plan.
Health experts say it's especially important for people enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans
or prescription drug plans to log in during open enrollment and make sure your plan still fits your
needs. There are tools online at Medicare.gov for comparing options, and there are state health
insurance assistance programs or ships in every state, staffed by experts who can walk people
through their options and help them enroll. Selina Simmons-Duffin and PR News.
