Starting point is 00:00:00 Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Corva Coleman. The U.S. and Iran have held talks today in Oman, NPR's Jackie Northam reports. On the table for discussion is Iran's nuclear program, its support for proxies such as Hezbollah and Hamas, and limiting its arsenal of ballistic missiles. These are the first official talks the U.S. and Iran have held since the U.S. bombed three Iranian nuclear facilities last June. Iran is in a weaker position than a year ago when Israel devastated. its air defenses last summer. The U.S. has been building up its naval and air defense systems as a show of force in the region. Starting point is 00:00:41 and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have agreed to testify as part of a congressional investigation into late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. NPR's Elena Moore reports the Clintons are sparring with Republican lawmakers over how they will testify and whether it will be public. The Clintons agreed earlier this week to testify, but there's been a war of words since then. In a statement on X, Hillary Clinton lobbies for their upcoming testimonies to be public instead of videotaped, arguing for transparency and claiming that despite the Clinton's engaging in good faith with investigators, Republicans have, quote, moved to the goalposts and turned accountability into an exercise in distraction. In response, the House Oversight Committee accuses the two prominent Democrats of trying to spin the facts,
Starting point is 00:01:27 pointing to email exchanges in which the Clinton's lawyers initially agreed to the terms. Elena Moore, NPR News. The Pentagon says the U.S. military has conducted another deadly boat strike, this time in the eastern Pacific. The U.S. military says it struck a vessel purportedly carrying drugs and killed two people. Meanwhile, the Trump administration is being sued by the families of two men from Trinidad. They say the men were fishermen who were wrongly killed by the administration last year. Some TikTok creators say the platform's algorithm suddenly feels different. They're raising questions about political bias.
Starting point is 00:02:05 TikTok was sold last month to companies aligned with the Trump administration. NPR's Windsor Johnston reports. It hasn't even been 24 hours since a MAGA-Aline group started owning TikTok, and my videos are already being messed up. Aaron Parnas is a political content creator who has nearly 5 million followers on TikTok. He says his views have plummeted since the app changed hands. Sarah Roberts studies content moderation at UCLA. She says the stakes are high. Social media firms play a major, major role in geopolitics at this point.
Starting point is 00:02:38 At the same time, she says it's hard to determine bias in the algorithm. Many factors go into developing the recommendation algorithm, and one of the difficulties for creators is that they often don't know what the specifics are. TikTok has maintained it does not suppress political content based on viewpoint. Windsor Johnston and PR News. You're listening to NPR. President Trump has unveiled a new website. It's called Trumprx.gov.
Starting point is 00:03:05 Consumers can search it for discounts on some limited medications, but they have to pay in cash to get these instead of using their health insurance. Drug policy experts suggest if people use insurance, the co-pays are probably cheaper than the cash prices on the new website. There was a special primary election yesterday in a single congressional district in New Jersey, candidates are looking to fill an open house seat. The winner of the Republican primary is the mayor of the town of Randolph, Joe Hathaway. But the outcome of the Democratic primary is still too close to call.
Starting point is 00:03:39 Bruce Convizer reports from New Jersey. With 91% of the vote counted progressive activist Annalia Mea led the presumed frontrunner Tom Molinowski by less than 500 votes. It's estimated that some 6,000 ballots remain to be counted. Molinowski considered the establishment candidate is a former two-term congressman from a neighboring district. Meijia had the backing of the party's liberal stalwarts,
Starting point is 00:04:03 including Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The winner will face a Republican candidate backed by President Trump in a special election in April.
