Starting point is 00:00:00 Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Janine Herbst. The FBI has released surveillance footage from Nancy Guthrie's home on the morning she disappeared. The mother of today's show host Savannah Guthrie vanished from her home nine days ago as NPR's Alana Weiss reports. The video appears to show a masked armed subject wearing gloves and carrying a backpack. Officials have said that on the morning of her disappearance, Guthrie's doorbell camera disconnected at 147 a.m. motion have been detected on the camera, but until today, officials had not released any of the footage to the public. The search to find Guthrie, who is 84, has become more frantic in its second week. The FBI has said that it has a ransom note from the people who say they took her. Guthrie's children have said they are willing to cooperate, including paying her captors.
Starting point is 00:00:51 They say they still believe their mother is alive. Alana Wise and PR News. Indonesia says it's preparing to send troops to Gaza. It's part of the U.S. brokered ceasefire agreement, as MPR's Danielle Estrin reports from Tel Aviv. Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country, is the first to announce its training thousands of soldiers for potential deployment to Gaza. The U.S. is trying to stand up an international stabilization force in Gaza, but it's still unclear what the force's mandate would be. President Trump's Board of Peace is meeting next week. in Washington to raise funds for Gaza reconstruction. Israel says it opposes reconstruction until Hamas is disarmed.
Starting point is 00:01:33 Meanwhile, attacks continue in Gaza. Health officials there say several Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire. The Israeli military says it struck Hamas militants after armed Palestinians emerged from a tunnel and shot at soldiers. Daniel Esther in NPR News, Tel Aviv. The U.S. women's ski team has won another Olympic medal in the women's combined, team combined, A new Olympic event this year, the duo of Jackie Wiles and Paula Moulson took home the bronze. And peers Becky Sullivan has more.
Starting point is 00:02:03 Two days ago, Jackie Wiles finished fourth in the Olympic downhill. She cried at the finish line to be left off the podium. At 33 years old, she said, quote, I don't have many chances left. It hurts. On Tuesday, it was her turn to leap for joy. Wiles skied the downhill in Moulton, the slalom to capture the bronze. For both, it was their first Olympic medal. Here's Moulton.
Starting point is 00:02:24 Every child dreams of an Olympic medal, and to finally kind of call it a box to check that box, feels unbelievable. The team combined was the first race this Olympics for American Michaela Schifrin, the world's best slalom skier. She raced with Breezy Johnson, who just won gold in the downhill on Sunday. Johnson had the fastest downhill time again, but Schifrin skied the slalom a full second behind the leader, dropping the pair to fourth place. Becky Sullivan and PR News, Cortina Dumpetto, Italy. The Commerce Department says retail sales in November were flat after a 610th of a percent increase in November. Spending on cars, furniture, and electronics fell, while spending on groceries and gas, was slightly higher. And Cuban authorities say its airports have run out of jet fuel. Empires Ada Peralta,
Starting point is 00:03:23 reports, that's a huge hit to its tourism economy. Cuba's government says, as of today, commercial airliners won't be able to refuel at any of the country's airports. Air Canada announced it was suspending all its flights, saying it would also send empty planes to evacuate the 3,000 Canadians on vacation packages in Cuba. Cuba gets a lot of its foreign currency from visitors. Canadians make up a vast majority of tourists who visit Cuba. Cuba's oil woes have been made worse by increasing U.S. sanctions. The U.S. had stopped oil from coming in from Venet. and it has also promised tariffs on any country that breaks the blockade. The Cuban government says the restrictions are affecting every part of their economy.
Starting point is 00:04:02 Cuba already began rationing and limiting opening hours of everything from schools to banks to trains and ferries. Adipalta, MPR News, Mexico City. Honda is reporting a 42% drop in profit for the nine months through December. That's compared to a year earlier as President Trump's tariffs hurt the Japanese automakers in earnings. It's the second year in a row. The profit declined during the period at Honda, but the automaker says it's sticking to its full fiscal year profit forecast at nearly $2 billion.
