Authorities in Arizona say they detained a person for questioning last night in the disappearance of today's show host Savannah Guthrie's mother. The Pima County Sheriff's Office issued a statement after investigators released images showing a masked armed person at her front doors. NPR's Alana Wise reports. The video appears to show a masked armed subject wearing gloves and carrying a backpack. officials have said that on the morning of her disappearance, Guthrie's doorbell camera disconnected at 147 a.m. Motion had been detected on the camera, but until today, officials had not released any of the footage to the public. The search to find Guthrie, who is 84, has become more frantic in its second week.
Starting point is 00:00:47 The FBI has said that it has a ransom note from the people who say they took her. Guthrie's children have said they are willing to cooperate, including paying her captors. They say they still believe their mother is alive. Alana Wise, NPR News. On Capitol Hill, top immigration officials appeared before lawmakers Tuesday for the first time since two U.S. citizens were shot and killed by federal officers in Minneapolis. NPR's Yemen of Astillo reports. Democrats and some Republicans on the House Homeland Security Committee criticized the tactics used by officers on the ground and the strategy of top Trump administration officials to curb illegal immigration. The criticisms came as congressional funding is set to expire on Friday for the Homeland Security Department. That's the cabinet department that houses immigration and customs enforcement,

The hearing underscored how deeply divided Republicans and Democrats remain on top-level changes to immigration enforcement in the wake of the shootings. It suggested Congress is inching closer to another stopgap bill to fund the department in absence of a deeper agreement. Hima Abustillo and PR News, Washington. An Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in Washington, D.C. He arrived last night and will be at the White House today to meet with President Trump with Iran in the backdrop. Starting point is 00:02:48 at a second location, at a home in Tumblr Ridge. The Office of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney issued a statement saying he is suspending a planned trip overseas. This is NPR News. The bipartisan National Governors Association has canceled a meeting with President Trump that had been set for later this month during the group's annual conference. The NGA says it will not hold the traditional formal meeting after Trump excluded Democratic governors. The NGA is scheduled to meet in Washington, D.C., from February 19th to the day. 21st. A court document on sealed Tuesday shows the FBI relied on debunk claims of fraud to obtain a search warrant to seize ballots from an election office in Fulton County, Georgia, and that the investigation was initiated by a lawyer who tried to help President Trump overturn his election loss in 2020. At the Winter Olympics in Milan, the American heavily favored to win gold in men's figure skating as a sizable lead after the first day of competition. Here's Steve Futterman reporting. Melanin dominated the competition in the short program.
Starting point is 00:03:54 The 21-year-old in his first Olympics put together a flawless skate, including two quadruple jumps. He ended up with a score of 108.16. That's more than five points ahead of his closest competitor, Yuma Kagayama, of Japan. That's a huge margin when it comes to figure skating. He's in great position to win the gold on Friday when the free skate will take place. Melanin, who has the nickname the Quad God, because of his unparalleled ability to perform quadruple jumps, is expected to attempt six or seven in Friday's long program. That includes what could be the first quadruple axle ever on Olympic ice.
