Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Dave Mattingly. The House is expected to vote today on a war powers
resolution that would force President Trump to seek congressional approval for additional U.S. military
action against Iran. A similar measure did not clear the Senate yesterday, where the vote was 53 to 47 against the resolution.
In a statement, Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, accuses the president of launching what he
calls an illegal and regime-change war against Tehran. Israeli air strikes targeting Hezbollah
installations in southern Lebanon continued overnight. NPR's Hidal Al-Salti in Beirut says
officials in Lebanon say the Israeli strikes killed more than 70 people. Israel said the strikes
are in reaction to Hezbollah launching rockets into northern Israel earlier this week. Hasbullah said
it was in reaction to Israel's attacks in Iran and its continued strikes in Lebanon even after
a ceasefire was brokered last year. Israel targeted a Palestinian refugee camp in the coastal city of
Tripoli, killing two, according to the Lebanese health ministry. Israel also issued new evacuation orders
to everyone south of the Latani, a river considered a front line in the conflict. This raised fears
that Israel could begin a ground offensive in South Lebanon. Hadil al-Shalchi NPR News, Beirut.
Sri Lanka says its navy has recovered at least 87 bodies from an Iranian warship sunk
by a U.S. submarine. More than 30 others were rescued from that ship. The Iranian naval ship was hit
by a torpedo fired by an American submarine off the coast of Sri Lanka. Officials in Turkey say a ballistic
munition headed for its airspace from Iran was shot down yesterday. No injuries were reported.
Turkey is a member of NATO and hosts the 39th wing of the U.S. Air Force at a Turkish air base there.
Immigration enforcement and the actions of federal agents in Minnesota got much of the focus at yesterday's House Judiciary Committee hearing.
NPR's Jimenez-Bustillo says Homeland Security Secretary Christy Nome was pressed for answers a day after she appeared before a Senate panel.
The committee's ranking member, Democrat Jamie Raskin, was one of several who pressed Secretary Nome over her labeling of two citizens killed as, quote, domestic terrorists after their deaths.
What happened in Minnesota in those two incidents was an absolute tragedy.
Were they domestic terrorists, as you said to the country?
My condolences to their families because I know that their lives will never be the same.
There was a large split between Republicans and Democrats over whether immigration enforcement tactics have gone too far.
Meanwhile, lawmakers are still trying to negotiate a deal to fund Nome's department.
DHS is in the third week of a shutdown, meaning hundreds of thousands of federal workers are working without pay or furloughed.

Washington. The Wall Street Journal reports Morgan Stanley plans to lay off 2,500 employees. This is NPR News.
Republican Senator Steve Daines of Montana says he's decided not to seek a third term. Daines announced his
decision minutes ahead of a filing deadline. Montana's Attorney General Kurt Almie entered the race for Dane's
seat shortly before the same filing deadline. Almey is also a Republican and was immediately endorsed,
by President Trump. Former college and NFL football coach Lou Holtz has died at the age of 89. Holtz was a member of
College Football's Hall of Fame and won a national championship while at Notre Dame, as Michael
Gallenberger with member station WVPE reports. Holtz racked up nearly 250 wins in more than three
decades as a head coach that included 11 seasons at Notre Dame, where he led the fighting guy
to the 1988 national championship. President Donald Trump awarded Holtz the Presidential Medal of
Freedom in 2020 after he voiced his support for the president during that year's Republican National
Convention. In President Trump, we have a president we can trust who worked hard at making America
greater and who genuinely cares about people. Holtz ended his coaching career at the University
of South Carolina in 2004. For NPR News, I'm very much.
Michael Gellenberg.
AAA says gasoline prices continue going up amid the ongoing U.S. and Israeli attacks against Iran.
The cost of regular gas is now averaging $3.25 a gallon.
The price has risen 25 cents since Monday amid uncertainty about the world's oil supplies.
