President Trump is spending the weekend at Mar-a-Lago following a week in which global stock markets plummeted.
They declined further yesterday after China responded to Trump's tariffs with additional tariffs of 34% on U.S. products.
Trump has pledged not to change course. A baseline tariff of 10% on foreign imports to the U.S. took effect today.
California Governor Gavin News emerging international trade partners to exempt California from retaliatory actions, CapRadio's Laura Fitzgerald reports.
California is the world's fifth largest economy and the largest importer in the U.S. As sweeping
tariffs take effect, Newsom says his administration is looking for ways for California to maintain
its global economic edge. He posted remarks in a video on social media. I'll remind all our international trading partners, California is a stable trading partner
and we hope you consider that as it relates to California-made products.
Newsom says he's looking for ways to preserve international trade relationships.
He also asked partners to consider sparing California products from any retaliatory tariffs.

To Texas now, where Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing the city of San Antonio over a city
council vote that set aside $100,000 potentially to be used for out-of-state abortion travel.
Texas Public Radio's Josh Peck reports.
The lawsuit calls for a temporary restraining order and injunctive relief to prevent San Antonio from moving forward with its plan.
The San Antonio City Council did not vote to allocate any taxpayer dollars to any particular
services or organizations.
But the vote did set up a process that could likely lead to taxpayer dollars being used
to help people access abortion care outside of Texas, where most abortions are illegal.
A statement from the San
Antonio City Attorney's Office said it was, quote, confident that the action counsel took on Thursday
is compliant with local, state, and federal law. I'm Josh Peck in San Antonio.
Federal health officials say the U.S. now has more than 600 measles cases in 22 states. The
number includes 481 in Texas. NPR's Maria Godoy. Texas
health officials on Friday said the state had confirmed 59 new measles cases
in the last three days alone. Officials say 56 people have now been hospitalized
with measles. That's up from 42 earlier this week. The vast majority of cases in
Texas are in kids and teens under 18 who were unvaccinated. Meanwhile, health officials
in New Mexico reported the state now has a total of 54 measles cases. The CDC says there have been
six measles outbreaks in the U.S. so far this year. The country has now reported more than double the
number of measles cases this year as it saw in all of 2024. Measles is one of the most contagious infectious
diseases known to mankind. Public health officials say the best defense is vaccination.

This is NPR. Another round of torrential rain expected today in parts of the Midwest and
South. Regions already soaked by days of severe storms that in some cases
spun off tornadoes. There were a series of flash flood emergencies last night in Missouri,
Texas and Arkansas. Washington Capitol star Alex Ovechkin has tied the all-time NHL career
goals record set decades ago by Wayne Gretzky. Gretzky's record was once thought to be untouchable.
And Pierce Becky Sullivan was at last night's game.
Ovechkin came into the night two goals shy of 894 career regular season goals. Exactly
how many Gretzky had when he retired 26 years ago. And Gretzky was on hand Friday to watch
Ovi tie it up.
Ovechkin's first goal came just a few minutes into the game, then the second was a classic
power play slap shot from the left face off circle, the spot on the ice known as his office.
After the game, Ovechkin said it was a relief to tie the record.
It's such a great moment for hockey, it's such a great moment for DC.
And to be part of it, it's crazy.
The Capitals have six games left this season for Ovechkin to score at least one more goal
to claim the record all for himself.

The final four games in the NCAA Men's Division I basketball tournament are to be decided
today.
Florida set to play Auburn and Houston plays Duke for the right to play for the national title on Monday. The women's title game is tomorrow
between UConn and defending champion South Carolina. I'm Trials Snyder, NPR News.
