President Trump says he won't back down on his sweeping tariffs on imports for most of the world.
Speaking on Air Force One today, he said they'll stay in place until other countries even their trade with the U.S.
And he says he's not concerned about major stock market losses that have occurred around the world since he announced the tariffs.
Now what's going to happen with the market, I can't tell you, but I can tell you our country has gotten a lot stronger. And eventually it'll be a country like no other.
It'll be the most dominant country economically in the world.
Not long after Trump made his comments, markets opened in Asia, where shares nosedived.
Tokyo's Nikkei index quickly dropped almost 8 percent.
Britain's foreign minister says it's unacceptable that Israel turned away two British lawmakers.
This weekend, the lawmakers have now left Israel.
Vicki Barker reports from London.
Abdu'a'l-Mohammed and Yuan Yang flew to Israel Saturday, intending to visit the occupied
West Bank.
But they were denied entry after Israeli immigration officials decided they intended to, quote,
spread hate speech about Israel. Fellow Labour parliamentarian Emily Thornberry told the BBC
Israel is being short-sighted.
Because people listen to what these two young women say,
and they will do for decades to come.
In a statement, Mohamed and Yang acknowledged
they have spoken out on the Israel-Palestine conflict
and on the importance of complying
with international humanitarian
law as have many of their peers in Parliament. For NPR News, I'm Vicki
Barker in London. Severe storms and flooding are continuing in the Midwest
as well as parts of the South through this weekend and that includes in
Indiana where authorities say at least one person has died after he went missing
on Saturday.
George Hale from member station WFIU has more on that story.
Indiana conservation officers recovered the body of a 59-year-old man who was sucked underwater
while clearing debris.
They say first responders had attempted a rescue, but hazardous conditions meant it
took 24 hours to retrieve the body.
Heavy rain and flooding across
Indiana over the weekend has caused widespread damage. Meteorologist Earl
Breon says the rain is starting to let up but we want people to go ahead and
keep their guard up, respect the water, respect the flooding situation. Officials
say dozens of people have been rescued in nearby counties after being stranded
by rising waters and damage to roads.
For NPR News, I'm George Hale in Bloomington, Indiana. Palestinian health officials say Israeli
strikes in Gaza this weekend have killed at least 32 people. More than a dozen women and children
were among those who died. Israel's military had ordered Palestinians to evacuate several
neighborhoods in a central Gaza city shortly after about 10 projectiles were fired from Gaza toward Israel.
The military says five of those projectiles were intercepted.

The Philippines says a Chinese coast guard ship nearly collided with one of its vessels
off the coast of a Philippine island.
The near miss is the latest tense incident between China and the Philippines over an ongoing
territorial dispute, NPR's Emily Fang reports.
The Philippines Coast Guard says a Chinese ship nearly hit one of its smaller boats in
what it calls a provocative action. The ships were off the coast of Luzon Island, one of
the Philippines biggest. The Chinese ship is the same one that the Philippines said rammed one of its boats last
year over a dispute in the South China Sea.
In 2016, an international tribunal ruled in favor of the Philippines, saying much of the
waters in that sea are under its economic control, not China.
But China has not respected that ruling and the fear is that an incident between the two
countries could spark a war. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegsath visited Manila last week and
pledged more military cooperation with the Philippines. Emily Fang and Peer
News, Washington. Germany marked the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the
Buchenwald concentration camp on Sunday during the memorial a local governor
offered warnings against what he said was radicalization and a worldwide shift to the right. The event was attended by several Holocaust survivors from
across Europe. UConn beat South Carolina on Sunday 82-59 to claim its 12th NCAA Women's Basketball
National Championship. Sarah Strong had 24 points and 15 rebounds in the win, while as a FUD added another 24 points,
it's the Huskies' first championship since 2016 defending champion South Carolina had
been trying for a third title in four years.
