This is out of her glass. In Lily's family, there's a story everybody knows by heart.
If this story had never happened,
All of us wouldn't be here right now.
Sammy wouldn't be here.
Nina wouldn't be here.
Wally wouldn't be here.
Anyone that we know wouldn't be here.
So what happens when Lily's mom tells her this story is not true?
This American Life, surprising stories every week.
Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Giles Snyder. Three days after President Trump announced a new
regime of tariffs that includes a 20% duty on European Union goods, Elon Musk now says he
hopes the US and Europe will move to a zero-tariff situation. NPR's Ruth Sherlock is in Rome.
Musk, the billionaire advisor and ally allied President Trump, made his comments during a video conference
appearance at a rally for Italy's far-right League party in Florence.
He said ideally there will be a quote, zero tariff zone in the future with a free trade
zone between Europe and North America, and that there will be quote, a very close, stronger
partnership.
This seemed to contrast with Trump's more adversarial tone
who said the European Union was created to quote screw America.
Musk has remained largely quiet as Trump announced the sweeping tariffs
that have sent global markets plummeting.

And as social media posts this weekend President Trump urged Americans to hang tough, describing
the market swings as an economic revolution.
His terrorists animated more than 1,200 demonstrations against his administration this weekend.
Big crowds turned out in cities and towns across the country.
The death toll from severe storms in parts of the south and midwest is rising.
At least 16 people have been killed
following another round of pounding rain and flash flooding with at least 10 in Tennessee.
In West Plains, Missouri, Mayor Mike Topplett got emotional after Friday's storm led to
the death of one person trapped in their vehicle by floodwaters.
It's tragic when something like this happens, but to see neighbor help a neighbor, we have a strong community.
We put the little petty things aside, we take care of the greater good right now.
Nat.
The region has been hit by strong storms for days now, some spinning off tornadoes.
There have been a series of flash flood emergencies from Texas to Ohio.
Yemen's health ministry blaming the US for air
strikes that struck a building at a Houthi stronghold overnight, killing two people.
President Trump has vowed to punish the Houthis for attacking ships on waters used for trade,
impures Hadil Al-Shalchi reports. The Yemeni Ministry of Health said that the strike hit a
solar panel shop and a civilian's home in the Saada district northwest of the country.
The strike came a day after President Donald Trump posted an online video of a bombing
on a gathering of people.
The Houthis claimed that strike targeted a group celebrating the end of Ramadan in the
Hudaydah province on the Red Sea.
Trump's video caption read, Oops, there will be no attack by these Houthis.
They will never sink our ships again. There was
no immediate comment from the White House. The Houthis have been firing missiles at US warships
since the beginning of the war in Gaza. The US has carried out an intense bombing campaign targeting
Houthis for almost a month now. Hadeel Al-Shalchi, NPR News. And you're listening to NPR News.
A day after protests against President Trump attracted huge crowds around the country,
supporters of French far-right leader Marine Le Pen are taking to the streets of Paris
today, days after a court barred her from running for president in 2027.
Rebecca Rossman reports.
A new video from Le Pen's National Rally Party is urging people to protest what it calls
quote, the tyranny of judges.
Last week, Le Pen was convicted of embezzling millions in EU funds and sentenced to a five-year
ban from holding public office.
The ruling has triggered outrage from her supporters and concern for the French judiciary.
Police are now stationed outside the home of the lead magistrate
who has received death threats. Le Pen had been leading in early polls for the 2027 presidential
race. Party leaders say today's demonstration will be peaceful and a show of public support for her
candidacy despite the court's decision. Rebecca Rossman and PR News, Paris. At the Vatican today,
the court's decision. Rebecca Rossman and PR News, Paris. At the Vatican today, Pope Francis made an unexpected appearance in St. Peter's Square,
greeting the crowd from his wheelchair at the end of the celebration of a mass for the
Roman Catholic Church's jubilee year. It was the Pope's first public appearance since
being discharged from a hospital two weeks ago. After a life-threatening bout with pneumonia, he spent more than five weeks in the hospital.
College basketball, the Women's NCAA Tournament Championship is on the line today.
South Carolina will defend its title against Connecticut this afternoon in Tampa, Florida.
