At last check, we see the Dow is down 600 points or one and a half percent. S&P is off nearly 1 percent. Nasdaq is down roughly half a percent. More on tariffs and market reaction. But first, the Trump administration is now
Starting point is 00:00:43 appealing to the Supreme Court as it faces a court-ordered midnight deadline to bring back Kilmar Abrego-Garcia. He is the Maryland man who was mistakenly deported to a prison in El Salvador even though his family says he has legal protected status in the US. NPR's Jasmine Garz with the latest. Abrego-Garcia has been living in Maryland for more than a decade with a form of legal protection known as withholding of removal. He was arrested by immigration officials last month and sent to a notorious Salvadorian detention center.
Starting point is 00:01:14 His lawyers contend he has no criminal record, and the Trump administration admitted it had made what it called, quote, an administrative error. Last week, federal Judge Paula Zinnes ordered that he be brought back. The administration requested a stay, which a Fourth Circuit court panel denied earlier this morning. The Trump administration has now asked the Supreme Court to block the order, calling it absurd. Jasmine Garst and Peer News, New York.
Starting point is 00:01:43 In the latest trade standoff between the world's two biggest economies, President Trump says the U.S. is prepared to impose even higher tariffs on China Wednesday if Beijing does not drop its retaliatory measures. It's all rattling Trump allies even on Wall Street who've been sounding the alarm of a recession on the horizon. More from NPR's Maria Aspin. Even if things don't get that bad, this current market sell-off could have real consequences and real pain for most consumers. And also, let's not forget, these new tariffs are widely expected to raise prices on almost everything that Americans import. Maria Aspin reporting. Officials say the death toll from severe weather in Tennessee has reached at least 10. WPLN's Paige Flegger with the latest. Severe weather has plagued the state for multiple days, bringing tornadoes, 75 mile per hour winds, and flooding. At least five people died in McNary County, where an EF3 tornado with 160 mile per hour
Starting point is 00:02:46 winds caused damage to more than 300 structures, according to the county's Emergency Management Agency. The ground was already saturated with rain by Friday, and flooding remains the biggest concern. Multiple waterways reached moderate flood stage or higher. Two Tennessee counties along the Kentucky border issued voluntary evacuations in areas that are prone to flooding. Waterways are anticipated to continue to rise through the early part of the week.

The Huskies roll past defending national champion South Carolina yesterday, 82 to 59. Was UConn's first national title in nine years. The game was played in Tampa, Florida. The men's national championship game is tonight in Texas. University of Houston will be seeking its first NCAA men's basketball title when it takes on Florida at the El Adom in San Antonio.
Starting point is 00:04:10 Greg Eklund reports both teams are top seats. At age 69, Houston coach Kelvin Sampson could become the oldest coach to win a men's division one basketball title. UConn coach Jim Calhoun was 68 when his team won in 2011. Sampson says he's been getting encouraging messages from seasoned coaches around the country. They all kind of had similar messages to me, you know, you know, when one for the old guys or something like that. Florida's third-year head coach Todd
