President Trump said Sunday his tariffs on imports for much of the world will stay in place until other countries begin to even their trade with the US.
Those tariffs have sent markets around the world reeling but Trump says some
countries are already reaching out to make deals. Europe's treated us very badly.
We put a big tariff on Europe. They are coming to the table. They want to talk
but there's no talk unless they pay us a lot of money on a yearly basis.
Number one for present, but also for past. Trump said he doesn't want markets to collapse,
but he said sometimes you have to take medicine to fix something.
Stocks in Asia meanwhile have dropped precipitously as traders remain concerned over President Trump's tariffs.
Tokyo's Nikkei dropped almost 8% when markets opened, while the Hang Seng dropped
more than 10%. European stocks are also now dropping as those markets open.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was in Texas on Sunday where
he spoke with people about the state's continuing measles outbreak. Kennedy was an anti-vaccine
advocate before assuming office, but in a social media post on Sunday he said the most effective way to prevent the spread of
measles is to be vaccinated. His visit came just three days after a
second school-aged child died. Several storms are continuing to batter parts of
the south and Midwest. At least 18 people have died so far from the storms.
NPR's Joe Hernandez reports.
Areas hit by high winds and washed out by heavy rain since midweek saw even more bad
weather over the weekend.
The system produced thunderstorms, flash floods, and even some tornadoes over a roughly five
day period.
The National Weather Service says parts of Kentucky, Arkansas, and Tennessee received
more than a foot of rain, while more than 10 inches fell in areas of Illinois, Mississippi, and Missouri.
But forecasters also warned that even after the heavy rains slow over the weekend, flooding
could continue for several days.

Britain's foreign minister says it's unacceptable that Israel turned away two British lawmakers
this weekend.
Vicki Barker reports from London.
Abdu'ssam Mohammed and Yuan Yang flew to Israel Saturday intending to visit the occupied West
Bank, but they were denied entry after Israeli immigration officials decided they intended
to, quote, spread hate speech about Israel. Fellow Labour parliamentarian Emily Thornberry told the BBC Israel is being short-sighted.
Because people listen to what these two young women say, and they will do for decades to
come.
In a statement, Mohammed and Yang acknowledged they have spoken out on the Israel-Palestine
conflict and on the importance of complying with international humanitarian law,
as have many of their peers in parliament. For NPR News, I'm Vicki Barker in London.

Pulling off a 70 to 67 upset earlier in the night
Florida mounted a run of its own against Auburn after being down eight at halftime winning 79-73. Houston and Florida will
play in the National Championship on Monday night at the Alamo Dome. The two
teams haven't played each other since 1973. Houston is playing for its first
ever title and Florida is back in the title game for the first time since it
won back-to-back championships in 2006 and 2007.

In its debut weekend, a Minecraft movie is smashing all box office projections.
The video game adaptation brought in $157 million dollars in North American theaters
and an additional $144 million dollars internationally.
It also broke the record for a video game adaptation previously held by the Super Mario Brothers movie. A working man came in
second with 7.2 million dollars in sales while The Chosen Last Supper Part 2
finished in third. I'm Dale Willman, NPR News. This message comes from Mint Mobile.
