Vance is expected to arrive in Islamabad today at the head of a U.S. delegation, which includes President Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and special envoy Steve Whitkoff. They are to hold talks tomorrow seeking to shore up a ceasefire shaky over Israel and Hezbollah exchanging fire and Iran's chokehold over this traitor for moves. President Trump's handling of the war is drawing criticism and some praise him. among Americans. NPR's Frank Langford reports from Asheville, North Carolina. It is separating us from our NATO as well as their Arab allies, and it is impacting the world's economy in ways that I don't think this administration had any clue about. But Laura McHugh, an investment advisor, sees Trump making the world safer for the U.S. That includes the capture of Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro. That did send a message to the bad guys, and I think it sent a message to them that it could happen to you. And she hopes someday Iranians can topple their government. Starting point is 00:01:19 The White House is warning staff to not place bets on popular prediction market sites. NPR's Bobby Allen reports on new scrutiny over weather government. officials are abusing confidential information for profit. A staff-wide email from the White House Management Office put Trump officials on notice over prediction market sites like Kaushi and Polly Market. It said it's a criminal offense to use non-public information to make money on betting markets about federal policy, military strikes, and war. It comes as a number of suspiciously well-time bets have raised alarms, including six-figure
Starting point is 00:01:52 polymarket bets on a ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran hours before an announcement was made. regulators have cleared the lane for the prediction market industry to boom in Trump's second term, but accusations that insiders could be profiting off of classified military intelligence have put the sights on the defensive. Bobby Allen and PR News. First Lady Melania Trump delivered a statement at the White House Thursday denying ties to Jeffrey Epstein and any knowledge of his crimes. Starting point is 00:02:36 Melania Trump also denied that Epstein introduced her to Donald Trump and said she is not one of Epstein's victims. She urged Congress to hold public hearings for them. Melania Trump's statement seemed to come out of the blue, a spokesman for the First Lady and the West said the West Wing knew beforehand that she'd be giving a statement, but it's not clear if her specific remarks were known. This is NPR News. The Artemis 2 astronauts are preparing for a return to Earth this evening. The three Americans and one Canadian are now under 150,000 miles from home after setting a new distance record during Monday's lunar flyby.
Starting point is 00:03:16 They're aiming for a splashdown in the Pacific off the coast of San Diego. A new analysis finds in. Emperor penguins are at risk of extinction. NPR's Nate Roth reports that melting sea ice and changing food availability are causing the decline. The world is getting warmer, thanks to human activities, and temperatures at the poles are rising significantly faster than the global average. Hotter temperatures means less sea ice. And for emperor penguins, which rely on sea ice, for breeding and his places to rest, it means fewer penguins are surviving. Twice in recent years, the ice is broken up early, causing thousands of chicks to drown.
Starting point is 00:03:53 in the frigid water. The International Union for the Conservation of Nature says Emperor penguins are now considered to be endangered Antarctic fur seals as well. Scientists involved in the analysis say urgent action is needed to reduce climate warming pollution. Nate Roth, NPR News.
