Starting point is 00:00:28 President Trump is questioning the due process rights of people in the U.S. NPR's Luke Garrett says that during an interview aired Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press, Trump said the courts and legal proceedings are getting in his way as he tries to deport millions of people. NBC's Kristen Welker asked the president if he thinks both citizens and non-citizens deserve due process, their day in court. Trump responded by saying he wants to deport millions and doesn't know if deportees deserve this due process.
Starting point is 00:00:55 When asked whether this violates the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution, Trump said he was elected on the promise of mass deportation, but the courts were preventing him from doing that. Trump also said he does not think military force would be needed to make Canada the 51st U.S. state. Police in Brazil say they stopped a bomb threat aimed at the Free Lady Gaga concert in Rio de Janeiro Saturday night.
Starting point is 00:01:15 Officials say police arrested two people connected with the alleged attack. NPR's Andrew Limbong has more. More than two million people gathered at Copacabana Beach on Saturday night to dance and sing. According to a police statement, the group allegedly responsible for the planned attack were targeting children, adolescents, and the LGBTQIA plus community using improvised explosives and Molotov cocktails. The two unnamed people arrested included the alleged leader of the group and a teenager who police say was storing child pornography. A spokesperson for Lady Gaga told the Associated Press that the pop star only learned about the alleged threat via media reports
Starting point is 00:01:53 Sunday morning and that her team worked closely with law enforcement and was confident in the safety measures in place. Andrew Limbang and Peer News. In Gaza, a group believed to have ties to Hamas police says it has executed at least nine looters. They claim those who were killed were working in organized crime gangs. Aid warehouses have been looted across Gaza during the continuing Israeli blockade of food and basic supplies there. NPR's Anas Baba reports. In Gaza City, chaos erupts as hundreds of Palestinians break into this UN warehouse. In recent days, crowds have broken into several aid facilities throughout Gaza.
Starting point is 00:02:35 Furniture, solar panels, and other equipment, anything that can be repurposed or sold or hauled away. There is no food for the looters to steal. These warehouses have run out of food stocks due to the Israeli blockade. Gaza's interior ministry told the local news agency that it has formed a new 5,000th member police force to deal with looting and armed gangs. Local police however say Israeli drones firing at police officers prevent them from effectively patrolling. With Israel

European stocks move lower on Monday as investors wait for further details on the US-China trade negotiations. Police in Peru say they've retrieved the bodies of 13 miners killed by a criminal group involved in illegal gold mining. The victims were kidnapped a week ago after being sent to the area by their employers to confront the gang.
Starting point is 00:03:37 Here's the BBC's Leonardo Ruca. These young security guards are working for a mining company. They were sent to this area in the Andes to basically try to get control of the area that had been stormed by the criminal gang. They went in there and they were kidnapped by this gang of heavily armed people and they were kept inside a mining shaft. And for a week the family were getting mobile phone messages from these criminals telling them to tell the police to stay away or otherwise they'll be killing them until all communication stopped and now the government have found the bodies of
Starting point is 00:04:12 these 13 men inside the shaft. That's the BBC's Leonardo Roca reporting. President Trump says he'll order the government to reopen and expand Alcatraz, a notorious former prison on an island in San Francisco Bay. The prison has been closed for more than 60 years and is now a tourist attraction. In a social media post, he says the prison will be used to house America's most ruthless and violent offenders. The latest Marvel Studios superhero film hit North American box offices this weekend. Thunderbolts brought in $ million dollars in ticket sales,

The Horflick Center's meanwhile came in second followed by a Minecraft movie, which has brought in 398 million dollars in 31 days of distribution.
