Starting point is 00:00:00 Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Jack Spear. The Israeli military has carried out multiple strikes directed at a key port in Yemen. As NPR's Greg Beire reports, the Israeli attack comes a day after Yemen's Houthi fighters fired a missile into central Israel. The Israeli military posted a statement saying its jet fighters targeted the seaport of Hodeida on Yemen's western coast as well as a nearby concrete factory. The Israelis say both facilities are central to Houthi military operations. A day earlier a long-range missile from Yemen crashed close to Israel's main airport outside
Starting point is 00:00:38 Tel Aviv causing several injuries. This marked an extremely rare instance of a Houthi missile penetrating Israeli air defenses and hitting near a sensitive site. The U.S., meanwhile, has been bombing Yemen almost daily for seven weeks. The U.S. is demanding a halt to Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea. Greg Myre, NPR News. The Trump administration is out with a proposal that would call for $1,000 payments to immigrants in the U.S. illegally who agreed to return voluntarily to their home countries. Trump has made immigration enforcement a centerpiece of his campaign, though it's been a costly resource intensive operation. Immigrants rights groups have warned anyone to be very cautious about accepting any such offers. The 2027 NFL draft will be held on the National Mall. Starting point is 00:03:22 Age of AI. The initiative was unveiled today at the World News Media Congress in Krakow, Poland. Rare diverse spring flowers are blooming at Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It's home to more than 1,500 flowering plants. Jackie Saber of Member Station WUOT is more. The spring ephemerals in lower elevations of the park usually go dormant in the summer months. Some flowers, like the yellow trillium, can only be found in southern Appalachia. Visitors are encouraged to download the app iNaturalist to document the spring flowers and other wildlife.
Starting point is 00:03:54 The nonprofit Discover Life in America uses data from that app to keep track of plants and animals in the park. Todd Wichert is the executive director. We have a project through iNaturalist called Smokey's Most Wanted and so we try to encourage people to look for some very specific things we're wanting to know more about or where it is in the park.
