Starting in the 1950s, there was a push to get meat onto Americans' plates at every meal.
So you would have breakfast with maybe perhaps sausage offered.
You'd have lunch where it would be deli meat sandwiches.
And you'd have dinner that would center over a large cut of meat.
The hidden forces behind our everyday decisions.
That's on the TED Radio Hour from NPR.
Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Korova Coleman.
President Trump says he believes many U.S. businesses are being helped by his tariffs
on China.
In an interview yesterday on NBC, Trump said small businesses are not going to need relief
because they'll make money.
Separately, Trump says he is instituting a 100 percent tariff on movies produced outside
of the U.S.
And Biers Mandelit Del Barco reports.
On social media, Trump wrote that America's movie industry is, quote, dying a very fast
death and that Hollywood is, quote, being devastated by other nations that draw filmmakers
and studios away from the U.S. with incentives, something he calls a national security threat.
His post did not give any details about his tariff plan, but it appears to be his solution
to the fact that many American films and TV shows are produced internationally.
Countries like Canada, the U.K., and Australia give productions lucrative tax incentives,
rebates and grants.
Trump blames California Governor Gavin Newsom for allowing that to happen, but Newsom has
already proposed boosting his state's tax incentives.

Israel is seeking to limit the way that food and supplies are distributed to Palestinians in Gaza.
NPR has learned the plan would shut down hundreds of community kitchens and food distribution points.
Instead, Palestinians would be told to report to between
four and 10 aid centers. And B.S. Daniel Estrin reports they would only be open in southern
Gaza.
Israel says this whole operation is an attempt to isolate aid from Hamas and to weaken the
group. And an Israeli official tells us it's actually part of a bigger strategy to get
Palestinian civilians to move en masse
to a smaller, more consolidated area of Gaza so that the military can expand the territory
that it's taking over in Gaza. And the army is already starting to call up more soldiers.
And Piers Daniel Estrin reporting, Israel has cut off food and aid supplies to Palestinians
in Gaza for the past two months. Closing arguments are expected today
in the second-degree murder trial
of three former Memphis police officers.
They're accused in the fatal beating
of black motorist Tyree Nichols.
From member station WKNO, Katie Reardon has more.
Prosecutors are relying heavily on graphic,
body camera, and surveillance footage
that captured five officers either
restraining, punching, kicking, or striking Nichols after a January 2023 traffic stop.
He died three days later.
They argue that although some of the officers, who are also black, used more excessive force,
all had a duty to intervene.
One of the men initially charged testified against his former colleagues.
Defense attorneys dispute whether some of the officers were able to see the punches and kicks because of the heavy use of pepper spray
and chaos of the arrest.
They argue that officers complied with police training to handcuff Nichols who they say resisted. For NPR News,

Spanish officials say some of the cabling used in the train's signaling system has been stolen from four different locations.
Thousands of people have been traveling home after a holiday weekend in southern Spain.
Some people were stuck overnight in their rail cars.
Police in Brazil say they foiled a bomb threat aimed at the free Lady Gaga concert in Rio
de Janeiro on Saturday night.
Officials say police arrested two people connected with the alleged attempted attack.
And Piers Andrew Limbong has more.
More than two million people gathered at Copacabana Beach on Saturday night to dance and sing.
According to a police statement, the group allegedly responsible for the planned attack
were targeting children, adolescents, and the LGBTQIA-plus community using improvised
explosives and Molotov cocktails.
The two unnamed people arrested included the alleged leader of the group and a teenager,
who police say was storing child pornography.
A spokesperson for Lady Gaga told the Associated Press that the pop star only learned about
the alleged threat via media reports Sunday morning and that her team worked closely with
law enforcement and was confident in the safety measures in place.
