age of 88.
And Piers Silvio Paggiolli examines Francis' legacy.
Francis opened up the College of Cardinals hugely.
He expanded the numbers and he very much increased the representation of countries that had never
been represented in the College of Cardinals,
much shifting certainly the balance from Europe and North America to the global South. A lot
of Asians and Africans were included.
NPR's Sylvia Pujoli. The U.S. and Britain say they have reached a limited trade deal
that will give Britain some relief from President Trump's tariffs. Here's NPR's Lauren Fraher from London.
Speaking at a car factory in the British Midlands, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Britain is
the first country to secure such a deal with the US.
And in an era of global insecurity and instability, that is so important.
Starmer says the agreement would completely remove. tariffs on British steel and aluminum and bring tariffs on most
British cars down from 27.5% to 10%. In return, the U.K. is removing a tariff on U.S. ethanol
imports. President Trump first announced the deal from the Oval Office with Starmer on
speakerphone. Trump said it'll give U.S. companies better market access for beef and
machinery and that final details
are still being written up. Lauren Freyer, NPR News, London.
The State Department's directing its personnel and its consulate in the Pakistani city of
Lahore to shelter in place given the deadly violence this week. Here's NPR's Diya Hadid.
The State Department asked US citizens to leave areas of active conflict in Lahore if
they could do so safely. Earlier the
Pakistani army spokesman told media that his forces had shot down more than 20
drones that India had sent over its cities including Raul Pindi, the location
of Pakistan's army headquarters. He says one civilian was killed and four army
personnel were injured. India has not responded directly but says its forces
targeted air defense radars and systems at a number of locations in Pakistan.
This attack comes after Indian strikes earlier this week targeted multiple locations in Pakistan.
It says that was in retaliation for a militant attack that killed 26 tourists in late April.
That's Diya Hadid. It's NPR News. The entire air traffic control
system would be overhauled under a plan the administration's proposing.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is envisioning sweeping technology and
communications upgrades as well as six new air traffic control centers. US
aviation has been plagued by a recent series of deadly midair collisions, technical outages, and widespread disruptions to
travel. Health officials in Los Angeles are warning the public about a growing
outbreak of hepatitis A. The number of cases in the region tripled last year.
It's unclear what's behind the increase. Here's NPR's Will Stone. Hepatitis A is a
viral illness that affects the liver. It's spread through's behind the increase. Here's NPR's Will Stone. Hepatitis A is a viral illness that affects the liver.
It's spread through person to person contact
or contaminated food and water
due to poor hygiene and sanitation.
Usually those who are at high risk
are travelers from abroad,
people who are homeless or use drugs.
But Dr. Sharon Balter
with the LA County Department of Public Health says,
more recent cases in LA have not followed this pattern.
Beginning this year, we're seeing that that many if not most of the people don't have the risk
factors that we would expect.
Bolter says they're encouraging people to consider getting the hepatitis A vaccine,
which most adults over 25 have never received.

Jurors in Harvey Weinstein's rape and sexual assault retrial in New York heard from former
model Kaya Sekola today.

before another attack for which the former powerful producer was charged.
He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
