Hamas has given its response to a Gaza ceasefire proposal
from US Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff.
As NPR's Hadil Al-Shalchi reports,
Hamas is agreeing to some but not all of the terms.
In a statement, Hamas said that it has agreed
to release 10 living and 18 deceased hostages.
This is in exchange for Israel to release an agreed-upon number of Palestinian prisoners.
The US proposal calls for a 60-day ceasefire.
Israel accepted Witkoff's proposal earlier this week, but it's not a done deal.
Hamas is still seeking other demands, according to reports in Arab and Israeli media.
It says it wants a comprehensive withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza and a permanent
end to the war.
More than 54,000 Palestinians have been killed since the war began in Gaza 20 months ago
when Hamas militants attacked Israel.

Firefighting resources are stretched in western Canada, where wildfires continue to burn.
Some 180 wildfires are burning right now across that country. Emma Jacobs reports that the
Western fires have led to evacuation orders affecting some 17,000 people in the province
of Manitoba.
Emma Jacobs The leaders of both Manitoba and the neighboring
province of Saskatchewan have declared states of emergency. Some northern communities have
struggled to evacuate residents from remote areas.
The premier of Saskatchewan, Scott Moe, says the province is receiving support and aircraft from other provinces.
Resources are stretched thin because of the severity of the situation that we're facing and the intensity and ferocity of the fires.
Moe said the province has aircraft on loan from British Columbia, Quebec and Alaska. Firebans are in place across Canada
and forestry and other activities have been suspended in parts of the country to avoid
igniting new fires. For NPR News, I'm Emma Jacobs in Montreal. The International Atomic Energy
Agency says Iran has further increased its stockpile of uranium that's been enriched to
near weapons grade. In a confidential report, the agency calls on Tehran to change course.
The report comes as the Trump administration is trying to reach a deal with Iran over its nuclear program.
President Trump's tariffs are beginning to be felt in many parts of the country. For some black women,
it means they're starting to pay more for hair care. Tanya Washington is a law professor at Georgia State University.
She says that industry is larger than many people imagine.
The black hair care business is like a $2.5 billion industry.
And we know that a lot of the products are imported from China and other places that
will be subject to tariffs.
And so there is an anticipated increase in the
cost of those products that would include products that are applied to the
hair as well as hair extensions wigs. Some hairdressers across the country
already reporting an increase in prices because of those tariffs. You're

Sweden's Maja Stark holds a one-shot lead going into Sunday's final round of the Women's US Open Golf Championship. The 80th edition of that major tournament is being played at the Erin Hills course near Milwaukee.
Chuck Wimbawf, Member Station WUWM, has this report.
Twenty-five-year-old Maja Stark has never won a US women's major

Stark says during Sunday's final round. She'll just try to have fun because when I play scared
That's when I mess up and you can't really play scared at a course like this. Spain's Julia Lopez Ramirez had Saturday's best score, a 68, and is one shot back of Stark.
Top U.S. golfer Nelly Korda trails Stark by three strokes.

For his efforts, Siakam won the Larry Bird Trophy as the Eastern Conference Finals MVP.
It's just the second time in franchise history that the Pacers will play for the championship.
The series begins Thursday at Oklahoma City. Novak Djokovic reached the fourth round of the French Open Saturday with a 6-3,
