Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, it's Sarah Gonzalez. The economy has been in the news a lot lately. It's kind of always in the news and Planet Money is always here to explain it. Each episode we tell a sometimes quirky, sometimes surprising, always interesting story that helps you better understand the economy. So when you hear something about cryptocurrency or where exactly your taxes go, yes, I was. Listen to the Planet Money podcast from NPR. ago. Yes, I was listening to the Planet Money podcast from NPR. Live from NPR News in Washington. I'm Janine Herbst. President Trump and Elon Musk's public spat is growing. Musk continues to call for lawmakers to kill Trump's huge spending and tax cut package that's currently in the Senate
Starting point is 00:00:40 saying it will cause a recession this year. Trump says Musk knew all about the bill, which Musk denies, and he says he may cancel the federal contracts for Musk's companies. And that prompted Musk to say his SpaceX company will immediately start to decommission its Dragon spacecraft. And Piers Daniel Kurtzleben has more. There have been business consequences. Shares of Tesla plummeted this afternoon. Another point is that there are very tight margins to pass that big, beautiful bill on Capitol Hill. So if Musk has some pull with even a few Republicans, that could very much hurt that bill's chances of passing. But there's one more really important point here. Amid all of this today, Musk posted, quote, without me, Trump would have lost the

The Mauna Loa Observatory is considered the global benchmark for monitoring CO2 concentrations. A federal judge says AmeriCorps has to restore its programs in 24 states after the Trump
Starting point is 00:03:32 administration gutted them. But it's only a partial victory for the National Service Agency. The judge agreed with two dozen Democratic-led states that AmeriCorps did not follow proper procedure in dismantling its programs. In April, Elon Musk's Doge ordered the agency to terminate nearly $400 million in grants, in effect firing workers at 1,000 other organizations. It's not clear how many, though, can be rehired. Her victory sets up a final between the top two players in the world, a first for the French Open in the past three decades.
