National Guard troops mobilized by President Trump are in Los Angeles amid another day of protests over immigration and customs enforcement sweeps. Jared Bennett of LAist is in downtown LA. I'm in front of the detention center and federal building in downtown Los Angeles, where for most of the afternoon, demonstrators were confronting members of the National Guard and DHS. People we spoke to here were angry about recent ICE enforcement actions here in LA and the
Starting point is 00:00:57 deployment of the National Guard, which they saw as an unnecessary escalation. A little after two, a group of Los Angeles police moved in to clear the area. There was scuffling between demonstrators and police, and at least one person brought to the ground and detained. The demonstration is still ongoing, with a group moving from City Hall back here to the detention center. Jared Bennett reporting. Meanwhile, on X, California Governor Gavin Newsom asked President Trump to rescind the deployment of troops, saying they didn't have a problem until Trump got involved. Wall Street will be closely watching an inflation update this week to see how President Trump's tariffs are affecting consumer prices. And Piers Maria Aspin reports. The Labor Department's monthly Consumer Price Index, or CPI, tracks the prices people pay for goods and services. It's a key measure of inflation and something the Federal Reserve watches as it decides whether to change interest rates or hold them steady. But now, some economists are worried that the government has lost its ability to track this data

And Pierce Jeff Brady reports, it was the longest French Open final ever, lasting five hours and 29 minutes. It was a dramatic day at the French Open in Paris. Carlos Alcaraz of Spain beat Italian Yannick Sinner, rallying from two sets down and saving three match points. Upon winning, Alcares let go of his racket, dropped back on the famous red clay court, and covered his face as the crowd cheered.

This is Alcares' fifth win in the Grand Slam tournament, and tennis watchers consider it one of the greatest comebacks in the tournament's history, comparing the two young men to some of the most decorated tennis stars. At 22 years old, this is the 20th title of Alcares's career. Jeff Brady, NPR News. The biggest night in Broadway theater takes place tonight with the 78th annual Tony Awards. Nearly three dozen shows are up for awards.
Starting point is 00:04:32 The cast of many shows are set to perform tonight, including the original cast of the Broadway hit Hamilton, reuniting for a special performance in celebration of the show's 10th anniversary. This year's Tony's is hosted by Cynthia Erivo. She's the star of the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked. She also got her own Tony Award in 2016 with her performance as Celia in the color purple and she's a Grammy and Emmy winner too. I'm Janine Herbst, NPR News in Washington.
