Listen to the Consider This podcast from NPR. Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Willman. Officials have named a suspect in the shooting that targeted two state lawmakers at their homes in Minnesota.
Starting point is 00:00:32 NPR's Meg Anderson says the suspect is still at large. M.E. Anderson According to authorities, the suspect officials are seeking is 57-year-old Vance Bolter. They urged anyone who believes they have seen him to consider him armed and dangerous and to call 911. Authorities have yet to determine a motive for the attack that killed Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband and wounded State Senator John Hoffman and his wife. They did indicate that they found a list of individuals inside Bolter's car that
Starting point is 00:01:02 included Hoffman, Hortman, and other lawmakers. Authorities also indicated that they found no King's flyers in the car, a reference to the anti-Trump protests happening around the country Saturday. Minnesota state officials urged residents in the state to not attend those protests as a result. Meg Anderson, NPR News. Police say they've taken one person into custody after shots were fired near a No Kings protest in Salt Lake City, Utah on Saturday night. Police asked the large crowd to disperse after the shooting took place. Some people sheltered in churches, restaurants and parking garages in the area. From Member Station KUER, Caroline Ballert reports. According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, one person was critically injured and transported
Starting point is 00:01:46 to a hospital. Kelly Ferrone was nearby when the shots rang out during the No Kings protest in Salt Lake City. But I heard the shots and then just a crowd of people running. And then everyone just started screaming and running. Multiple law enforcement units are on the scene in downtown Salt Lake City and are calling the situation fluid. Law enforcement estimates about 10,000 people had gathered for the city's
Starting point is 00:02:08 second protest of the day. For NPR News, I'm Caroline Ballard. The parade honoring the 250th anniversary of the US Army went off without a hitch on Saturday evening. The event began with a parachute drop by the Army Golden Knights and followed with tanks, troops, and even plane flyovers. President Trump watched the parade from a viewing stand south of the White House. Afterward, he was presented with the gifts. Starting point is 00:02:51 Trump's 79th birthday. Israel and Iran traded a new round of attacks on Sunday. Iran says it launched missiles at fuel production facilities for Israeli fighter jets. Israeli officials say several people were killed in those attacks. Israel meanwhile targeted Iran's defense ministry headquarters. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky meanwhile says rising global oil prices following those strikes will strengthen Russia by increasing its oil revenues. You're listening to NPR News. Wildfire risk is rising across the West.
Starting point is 00:03:27 Colorado Public Radio's Ishan Takor reports on how homeowners can be prepared. When the Marshall Fire tore through Louisville, Colorado in 2021, it destroyed entire neighborhoods. Afterwards, neighbors Ann Brennan and Lisa Hughes rebuilt their homes to be more fire resistant. It's called home hardening.
Starting point is 00:03:46 They installed fine metal mesh over vents to block embers. And they cleared anything flammable, like mulch and trees, from near their homes. Fire expert Kimiko Barrett is with the research group Headwaters Economics. She says many of these changes are within reach. We do know that many of the most effective home hardening risk reduction strategies are also the most affordable. Brennan and Hughes worked with their neighbors. The message was delivered in a video broadcast on the Jumbotron at the White Sox baseball stadium in Chicago. That's Leo's hometown and he roots for the White Sox. Boston Red Sox fans are no doubt breathing a sigh of relief this weekend. The Colorado Rockies Saturday beat the Red Sox record for the worst 70 game record in the modern era. The Sox set that record in 1932.
