Starting point is 00:00:00 Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Dan Ronan. President Trump says there's a deal to end the war with Iran. On Truth Social Sunday, Trump said the agreement includes a plan to end the U.S. naval blockade on Iran and reopen the critical shipping lane, the Strait of Hormuz. Trump has been promising a deal for several weeks. NPR White House correspondent Franco Ordone's reports. I mean, it was a very unpopular war. I mean, gas and energy prices have been on the rise for weeks, really stretching the pocketbooks of everyday Americans.
Starting point is 00:00:37 Now, we're heading into the midterm election campaign season, and this was the issue that was hurting Republicans the most. I mean, Democrats were painting the president and his party as being out of touch with everyday Americans. The president is scheduled to fly to France later today for the G7 summit. The war with Iran is expected to be a significant topic of discussion. That summit opens in the French Alps. The leaders of the world's other leading economies will be tackling some of the world's storniest problems. NPR's Eleanor Beardsley reports security will also be very tight. The French town of Avionleby is under lockdown and practically deserted, as it prepares for the arrival of leaders from the U.S. France, Germany, the UK, Italy, and Japan. The two days of meetings will be secured by thousands of French riot, police, cybercrime and anti-terrorism squads, bomb disposal units, drone pilots, helicopters, and close to 1,000 military personnel from the French air and space force. Tuberville has long-faced criticism from Democrats and Republicans that his main home is a $5 million beach house in the Florida panhandle. Tuberville instead says he lives in a 1,500 square foot home in Auburn, Alabama, which records show has been owned by his wife and son since 2018, with Tuberville's name only appearing on the deed last year. Tuberville's primary opponent, Ken McFeeders, argued Tuberville, Hatton lived in the state for seven years prior to the election, which the Alabama Constitution requires of candidates for governor. Officials with the Alabama Republican Party said

Two of the winter sports leagues crowned champions over the weekend, the New York Knicks won the NBA championship. Sunday night, the Stanley Cup went to the Carolina Hurricanes. Starting point is 00:03:27 has launched a new website to make it easier for citizens of China to securely share sensitive information. Ashish Valentine reports from Taipei. The spy agency says it's in growing response to what's going on in China. Taiwan's National Security Bureau says as political controls get tighter in China, more and more sources there are contacting Taiwanese authorities to share sensitive information. The website aligns with similar efforts by the CIA, which has shared Mandarin language videos, urging disgruntled Chinese officials to contact them. China's Taiwan Affairs Office also runs a platform,
Starting point is 00:04:03 encouraging sources in Taiwan to report on so-called separatist activity. China claims the self-ruled island is its own territory, and information is just one front of the expanding gray zone conflict across the Taiwan Strait. For NPR News, I'm Ashish Valentine in Taipei.
