The House of Representatives has approved a White House request to claw back two years
of previously approved funding for public media.
The rescissions package now moves on to the Senate.
This move poses a serious threat to local stations and public media as we know it.
Please take a stand for public media today at GoACPR.org.
Thank you.
Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Willman. President Trump is considering a massive sanctions package
against Russia for its continued war against Ukraine.
One GOP Senator and close Trump allies
calling the sanctions a possible turning point in the war.
NPR's Luke Garrett has more on that story.
85 senators support legislation allowing President Trump
to levy up to 500% tariffs on the countries
supporting Russia.
That's according to South Carolina Republican Senator
Lindsey Graham on CBS News.
I expect in the coming days that there
will be tariffs and sanctions available to President Trump
he's never had before.
Graham calls the bipartisan sanctions a sledgehammer.
During the presidential campaign,
Trump celebrated his close relationship
with Russian President Vladimir Putin
and promised a swift end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
And after taking office,
Trump criticized Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky
for his handling of the war.
But now, Trump says his patience for Putin is running thin.

Russia, meanwhile, is increasing its attacks across Ukraine.
Ukrainian officials say Russian forces have fired hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles
this weekend.
Polina Litvinova has this report from Kyiv.
Saturday night, Russia targeted western Ukraine, leading to death and wounded in the city of
Chernivtsi.
Also, a Russian drone hit a residential building in Lviv.
Poland's Air Force scrambled fighter jets in areas bordering Ukraine in response to
the overnight attacks. President Volodymyr Zelensky says Ukraine is working on increasing
domestic production of the intercepted drones aimed to destroy Russian aerial targets.

Homeland Security Secretary Christine Noem defended FEMA's response to deadly floods
in Texas last week.
Speaking on NBC's Meet the Press on Sunday, she said her agency reacted quickly when the
call came in and she said FEMA is streamlining the way they respond to crises.
The president recognizes that FEMA should not exist
the way that it always has been.
It needs to be redeployed in a new way.
And that's what we did during this response.
Noam also denied that a memo she sent in June
requiring her approval of any FEMA expenditures
over $100,000 had caused the agency to move more slowly.
The historic Grand Canyon Lodge on the north rim of the canyon has been destroyed had caused the agency to move more slowly.
The historic Grand Canyon Lodge on the north rim of the canyon has been destroyed by a
wildfire.
The lodge was evacuated on Thursday because of that fire.
Park officials say the visitor center, the gas station, and a wastewater treatment plant
were also burned along with some employee housing and an administrative building. The park is the second most popular national park in the entire
system. Wall Street and European share futures slipped in Asia today. Traders
were reacting to President Trump's latest round of tariff threats. Both
futures markets were down by four-tenths of a percent. You're listening to NPR

France is increasing its military spending over the next two years, President Emmanuel
Macron says the money is needed because of what he called unprecedented threats from
Russia, terrorism and online attacks.
Macron says he will increase spending by $7.6 billion over the next two years.
At MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain
faced off in finals of the newly expanded FIFA Club World Cup. As Harrison Malkin reports,
Chelsea put on a dominating performance, topping PSG 3-0 in front of more than 80,000 fans.
Paris Saint-Germain might have won the Champions League and was seen by some as the favorite
going into this match, but they just didn't have the same juice this time.
The 23-year-old English-born Cole Palmer helped Chelsea get off to a big start, scoring twice
in the first 30 minutes of play.
Palmer also got an assist when Joe Pedro got the third goal of the day.
President Trump was in attendance and hand out awards during the post-game ceremony,
but some fans booed the president.
The FIFA World Cup will take place next year in June and July in MetLife Stadium, among
other venues.

The latest Superman flick from DC Comics took first place this weekend, with $122 million

the Brad Pitt Racing Vehicle, F1, finished in third with $13 million in domestic sales. I'm Dale Willman, NPR News.
