The Russian government warns that U.S. plans to send Ukraine weapons through NATO allies
will likely prolong the war.
NPR's Charles Maynes reports on the Kremlin's reaction to the weapons sales and sanctions
threats against Moscow that President Trump announced yesterday.
Trump approved the sale of U.S.-made missile defense systems in particular, amid growing
frustration over repeat Russian drone and missile strikes on Ukrainian cities.
Yet Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Ukraine would see the new arms deliveries, quote,
not as a sign of peace, but a signal to continue the war.
Peskov said Moscow remains committed to U.S.-brokered peace talks with Kiev that have yielded humanitarian
exchanges but made no progress towards a ceasefire.
Peskov also noted Trump's threats to impose secondary sanctions and tariffs on Moscow
in 50 days' time should Moscow fail to agree to a peace deal, were directed at Russian
President Vladimir Putin, adding it was up to Putin when and whether to respond.

Officials in flood-stricken Kerr County, Texas say they're planning to drain one or more lakes along the Guadalupe River in search of debris and human remains. More than 100 lives were lost to
floods a couple weeks ago. And Piers Martin-Coste has more from the town of Kerrville.
As the search and rescue effort in the Texas Hill Country transitions to recovery,
attention is turning to what the July 4th flood may have buried in the small lakes formed by dams on the river.
Ann Carr lives above Lake Ingram, and on Monday she told county commissioners about all the debris she saw flowing in.
We went out, we started seeing the lake rise, and as we did we saw all kinds
of things float by us. Propane tanks, kitchen appliances, you name it.
County commissioners say they're concerned about man-made hazards in the
lake, as well as the effort to find more of the roughly 100 people still
unaccounted for. They say there's a plan to drain one or more lakes, but they
wouldn't give details. Martin Kosty, NPR News.
Lyle McHugh, NPR News Legal experts are looking at the how behind
the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to clear the way for the U.S. Department of Education
to proceed with mass layoffs and dismantling.
Georgetown University Law Professor Steve Vladeck examined the High Court's emergency
applications.
He says since April 4th, yesterday's ruling was
the 15th time the Supreme Court has put on hold lower court rulings that had blocked
President Trump's initiatives.
These were rare that we would only get a handful of these kinds of rulings every term. We've
seen a remarkable and unprecedented uptick in the volume since President Trump came to
office in January and since many of his actions ran into trouble in the lower courts. Professor Stephen Vladeck on NPR's
morning edition. At last check on Wall Street the Dow Jones industrial average
was down 375 points. This is NPR News. Ice cream makers with the International
Dairy Foods Association are pledging to eliminate artificial food dyes by 2027 a move and Monday, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins hailed it as a move
away from government and toward industry self-regulation.
The beauty of America is the role that private enterprise has always played, but will continue
to play, and perhaps an even bigger role, in voluntarily shaping policies for the good
of future generations.
The Trump administration had previously announced plans to phase out eight artificial dies
from medicines, food, and candy by 2027. Yuki Noguchi, NPR News.
