President Trump says there's a good chance that he'll soon meet with both Russian president, Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. NPR's Franco Ordonez reports the White House says progress is being made toward ending the three-year conflict. President Trump says that his special envoy, Steve Whitkoff, has had what he called a highly productive meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The road was long and continues to be long, but there's a good chance that there will be a meeting very soon. But he did not give specifics for a future meeting, and he was careful to temper expectations, declining, for example, to call. all this a breakthrough.
Starting point is 00:00:59 I've been disappointed before with this one. Trump is threatening Russia with heavy sanctions if Moscow doesn't agree to a peace deal with Ukraine in the coming days. Trump has been increasingly frustrated with Putin for not ending the war sooner. Franco, Ordoñez, NPR News. An investigation is underway into a shooting at an army base in Georgia today that left five soldiers wounded. Emily Jones from Member Station, WABE reports the suspect has been arrested.
Starting point is 00:01:32 Army officials say Sergeant Cornelius Radford opened fire on his coworkers at their place of work on post around 11 a.m. Brigadier General John Lubas, the commanding general of Fort Stewart, says soldiers in the area immediately and without hesitation, tackled the shooter. These soldiers, without a doubt, prevented further casualties. Three of the five injured soldiers needed surgery, but all were in stable condition. by the afternoon. Army officials declined to speculate on a motive. They say Radford used what was believed to be a personal handgun. They also stressed that the investigation is ongoing, but the base has been secured. For NPR news, I'm Emily Jones at Fort Stewart. Millions of women in the United States could lose access to contraception under the Trump administration. NPR's Katie
Starting point is 00:02:20 Riddle reports that include some rollbacks to a Nixon-era program that guarantee, free contraception for low-income people. It's only been five decades since birth control became widely available in the U.S. Now, there are a number of ways the administration is limiting access, cutting Medicaid, which provides contraception for low-income women, as well as withholding funds from Planned Parenthood and the program called Title 10, created under President Nixon. Kimmy Chernaby is with the National Women's Law Center. We think of Title 10 as the only federal funding program that is exclusively meant for
