Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Wilman. Two weeks after President Trump sent National Guard troops into Washington, D.C., he's now considering doing the same in Chicago. That's according to reporting by the Washington Post, which cites unidentified officials. NPR's Amy Held reports.
Governor J.B. Pritzker says Trump is, quote, attempting to manufacture a crisis and Illinois didn't ask for federal help.
Trump declared a crime emergency in D.C. before stepping in. Friday, he indicated that's just the start.
Chicago's a mess. You have an incompetent mayor, grossly incompetent. And we'll straighten that one out probably next.
Mayor Brandon Johnson spoke Saturday in Chicago.
What's being painted by the federal government is false.
Like in D.C., violent crime is down in Chicago. Same in New York City, where Trump is.
Trump says a federal crackdown will likely follow, all cities led by black Democrats.
Trump has a lot more power over D.C., but presidents can federalize state guards elsewhere in an emergency, like Trump did in L.A. in June.
Amy Held and PR News.
The man who was wrongly deported by the Trump administration to an El Salvador prison and then return months later is once again facing deportation.
Kilmar Obrego-Garcia was released from a Tennessee jail last week, but his lawyers say the federal government,
is threatening to send him to Uganda.
His attorney, Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg, says that can't happen.
He's got the right to seek protection from deportation to any country where he thinks his life
or freedom is at risk.
It's called withholding of removal.
We think it's very clear that they can't put him on a plane to any country unless and until
that whole proceeding has played out and he loses his case.
Unfortunately, I don't know that they agree with that.
And if it turns out that they think that they've got the right to deport him to Uganda before
or he goes in front of immigration judge and has his case heard for protection to
Uganda, we're going to have to be right back in federal court asking for them not to be allowed
to do that.
Activists demonstrated in at least five British cities this weekend.
They were protesting the government's practice of using hotels to house asylum seekers.
Vicki Parker reports from London.
Anti-migrant protesters shouting,
send them home outside one hotel in the Scottish city of Perth.
Fears that the mostly made.
Male migrants pose a threat to local women and girls mixed with anger at government funds housing foreigners when locals are hurting.
But this counter-demonstrator told the BBC,
The way that asylum seekers have been demonised and the language that is being used is horrific.
And badging it up as concern about community is bigotry.
The anti-migrant protesters, a mix of locals and far-right agitators, have been heartened by a recent high court ruling.
ordering the British government to clear one hotel of asylum seekers,
they consider that a start.

Witnesses say Israeli forces shot and killed four Palestinian Sunday
as they were looking for food aid.
The four were part of a crowd of people heading to an aid site
run by an Israeli-backed U.S. contractor.
One witness called the gunfire indiscriminate.
residents of Gaza City are officially suffering from famine.
Israel's military, meanwhile, is continuing plans for an offensive to take control of Gaza City.
Millions of people in the Western U.S. are facing dangerous heat this weekend that's increasing the risks of wildfires.
Empires Shandalee's Duster has more.
Extreme heat watches and warnings are in effect for parts of California, Oregon, and Washington State through at least Tuesday.
The National Weather Service says some places will see temperatures surpassing one.
100 degrees with little relief at night. The heat, coupled with dry conditions, is also
fueling wildfires such as the flatfire in Oregon. Operation Section Chief Eric Perkins says
they are hopeful they can prevent the blaze from spreading, but weather is making it difficult.
We are in a firefight and the weather's not that favorable. It's more favorable for the fire
than the firefighters today. Officials are warning residents in places facing extreme heat to stay in
cool areas and drink plenty of water.

Lynn Chensi retired the first 13 batters he faced and allowed just one hit in five
innings as Taiwan beat Nevada 7-0-0 in the Little League World Series Sunday.
Lynn also hit a basis clearing triple in the fifth inning.
It's the first championship for Taiwan since 1996, while Nevada was appearing in its first
ever title game.
