Starting point is 00:00:35 Shots were fired through the windows of the Annunciation Catholic Church and school during Mass on Wednesday, killing two children and injuring 17 other people. Archbishop of St. Paul in Minneapolis, Bernard Hebda, offered a message of unity at the Academy of Holy Angels in Richfield last night. We brothers and sisters trust that it's precisely in that house of God. Where we're most at home, where indeed we were able to find hope. In Lynnhurst Park, hundreds of people gathered for a candlelight prayer vigil. Erica Jones witnessed first responders making their way to the scene.
Starting point is 00:01:13 And so to sit in a coffee shop this morning and watching squat cars fly by and businesses lock their doors, it's not a way to look. This is not how we should live. Authorities say the 23-year-old shooter died from a self-inful. gunshot wound and was identified as a former student of the school. The Immigration Detention Center in the Florida Everglades dubbed Alligator Alcatraz is expected to be empty within days. NPR's Greg Allen reports the state is fighting a lawsuit, ordering it to shut down. In a response to a request from clergy who wanted to serve as chaplains at the Immigration Detention Center, the director of Florida's Department of Emergency Management,
Starting point is 00:01:55 Kevin Guthrie, said an email stating, we're probably going to be down to zero individuals within a few days. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says federal immigration officials are sending fewer people to the facility. Now, obviously there's litigation that's been going on that DHS is a party to, and so that may have been an influence about where they're saying people. The state is appealing a court ruling ordering it to shut down the facility within 60 days. Greg Allen, NPR News, Miami. The microchip designer, NVIDIA, says its sales soared in the July quarter. NPR's John Rewich reports the results. The results. come despite uncertainty around China as a market for the company.
Starting point is 00:02:34 NVIDIA is the world's leader in chips for developing artificial intelligence, and demand for its graphics processing units has turned it into the world's most valuable public company. Its quarterly sales just hit $46.7 billion, an increase of 56% from the same period last year. Sales in the data center segment of the market, which is NVIDIA's biggest, grew at the same rate. The company's shares dipped in aftermarket trading, though, because the result, were slightly lower than expected. Still, the strong growth underscores red-hot demand for its chips as AI companies race to build computing capacity.
Starting point is 00:03:08 NVIDIA has been pushing for permission to sell its H-20 chips to China but says it didn't sell any during the quarter and doesn't expect to in the coming quarter. They've been approved for seniors, but only for younger adults and children who have at least one underlying health condition. Last week, K-pop Demon Hunters became the third soundtrack in history to land three top ten hits at the same time.
Starting point is 00:03:50 This week, NPR Stephen Thompson reports that it goes a step further. K-pop Demon Hunters is now the first. soundtrack ever to land four songs in the top ten at the same time. At number one, Golden by Huntricks. The music landscape has changed dramatically in the last 15 or 20 years. Past hit soundtracks staggered the release of their singles, that made it harder to land many of them in the top 10 at the same time. Still, the streaming era has produced its own blockbuster soundtracks, like Encanto and Barbie.

Mexico is suspending package shipments to the United States just ahead of the end of the Trump administration's exemption on tariffs for low-value parcels.
