The FBI is posting images of a person of interest and offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in Charlie Kirk's assassination. The influential conservative activist was fatally shot at a Utah Valley University event yesterday.
Starting point is 00:00:44 The Turning Point USA co-founder was 31 years old. The source tells NPR that Air Force 2 will transport Kirk's family in his casket from Utah to Arizona. NPR's Danielle Kurtzleben has more on that. as in at Vance and Second Lady Ushavans are visiting Salt Lake City, Utah to pay respects to Kirk's family. A source who was not permitted to talk about the trip on the record also confirmed the plans for Kirk's Casket to be flown home on Air Force 2, an uncommon honor. Vance was originally slated to attend a September 11th remembrance ceremony in New York City. Charlie Kirk was the founder and head of Turning Point USA, a right-wing group that organizes at high schools and on college campuses and is headquartered in Phoenix. credited with helping President Trump gain support among young voters in 2024.

In Lower Manhattan at Ground Zero, dignitaries and families of the fall in marked 24 years since the 9-11 attacks killed nearly 3,000 people. To this day, the deadliest act of tear on U.S. soil in the nation's history. NPR's Quill Lawrence reports from New York. This day also marks the beginning of a global war on terror, which has killed thousands of American troops and hundreds of thousands, most of them civilians, in places like Iraq and Afghanistan.
Starting point is 00:02:26 Quill Lawrence NPR News. A U.S. district judge in Arizona is temporarily blocking the Trump administration from deporting migrant children from Guatemala and Honduras. Lawyers for dozens of minors say their clients fear going home and have a right to due process. The Brazilian Supreme Court has convicted former president Jail Bolsonaro of all charges related to a plot to overthrow his successor, Luisinacio Lula de Silva. The ruling is unprecedented in Brazil. After Bolsonaro lost Alula, his supporter stormed. government buildings on January 8, 2023. The riots evoked comparisons to the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol two years earlier after President Trump, a Bolsonaro ally, lost his re-election

Inflation rose last month, and P.R. Scott Horsley reports on what that means for shoppers and for inflation watchdogs at the Federal Reserve. Consumers paid higher prices last month for groceries, gasoline, and other goods. The overall cost of living in August was up 2.9% from a year ago. That's a bigger annual jump than the previous month, and stubborn inflation may complicate the Federal Reserve's calculation, as it considers cutting interest rates. Central Bank is still widely expected to lower its benchmark rate by a quarter percentage point when policymakers meet next week. The fed's in a tight spot, though, as it faces both rising prices and a sagging job market.
