Live from NPR News in Washington. I'm Dave Mattingley. The Department of Homeland Security says the gunman who attacked a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Field Office in Texas yesterday, fired indiscriminately from a nearby rooftop. DHS describes the gunman as a sniper who killed one ICE detainee and wounded two others before taking his own life in Dallas. Investigators say the three detainees who were shot were inside a van.
at the time. Bullet holes were also discovered in an exterior window and an interior display
featuring an American flag. DHS says law enforcement was the target of the attack. President Trump
and Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas are among those calling for an end to the demonizing of
ICE by those opposed to the president's crackdown on illegal immigration. Vice President Vance
was in North Carolina yesterday where he denounced the fatal stabbing of a woman on a light rail
in Charlotte. Kenneth Lee with member station WFAE has more. Speaking inside the Concord
Paget Regional Airport, Vance addressed the fatal stabbing of 23-year-old Irena Zeruta. Zeruzka, a
Ukrainian refugee who was killed in Charlotte last month while taking the city's light rail. Vance said
it should have never happened. Because of soft on crime policies, she was murdered here,
not in the war-torn country she came from. Isn't that a disgrace? He encouraged Governor Josh
Stein to sign the state's new crime bill, which would end cashless bill, restart the death penalty,
and hire new prosecutors. Some Democrats oppose the expansion of the death penalty. For NPR news,
I'm Kenneth Lee and Charlotte. Later today, President Trump is expected to sign a deal to keep
TikTok operating in the U.S. This comes days after the president spoke with China's president,
Xi Jinping, to finalize an agreement, which requires TikTok's China-based parent company bite dance
to divest or face a ban.
For the second time in days, drones have disrupted air traffic at an airport in Denmark.
As NPR's Rob Schmitz reports, the latest incident occurred last night, and Russia is denying involvement.
Incoming and departing flights from Alborg Airport in northern Denmark were halted after
drones were spotted in its airspace.
Three other smaller airports in southern Denmark also reported drone activity, but were not closed.
The incidents come after Copenhagen Airport.
was forced to close earlier this week due to a drone incursion.
Prime Minister Meta Fredrickson called that incident the most severe attack on Danish infrastructure so far.
She said Russian involvement could not be ruled out.
A Kremlin spokesman called the allegations unfounded.
Last week, Estonia and Poland requested a consultation with NATO members
after they accused Russia of violating their airspace in separate incidents.

Facebook's parent company, Meta, says its new data center being built in Louisiana
will be the company's largest yet.
It's a $10 billion project covering the equivalent of 70 football fields.
It will require more than twice the electricity used by the city of New Orleans.
Researchers say harvesting and coastal development along the California coast have nearly
depleted the Olympia oyster population there.
The oysters were once an important food source for Native Americans and gold rushers.
Jill Replagol reports from Huntington Beach.
Every two weeks, Craig Schopner pulls up strings of discarded oyster shells from restaurants
hanging off of his dock in Huntington Harbor.
He checks to see whether any baby oysters have latched on.
Yeah, I don't see any oysters yet.
Schopner and some 80 of his neighbors around the harbor have been caring for these shell strings
since the spring. The nonprofit organization Coastkeeper will soon collect them and transfer any
baby oysters, called Spat, to a nearby wetlands area. The goal is to rebuild the once abundant
oyster beds along the coast to improve water quality and help prevent erosion in the face of
rising seas. For NPR News, I'm Jill Replegal in Huntington Beach. Cal Raleigh of the Seattle
Mariners has joined an elite group of Major League Baseball players. He's one of seven to hit 60 home
runs in a season. The switch-hitting catcher hit two home runs in last night's 9-2 win over the
Colorado Rockies. That all-time list includes Babe Ruth and Roger Maris. I'm Dave Mattingly,
