This is Eric Glass.
On this American Life, we like stories that surprise you.
For instance, imagine finding a new hobby and realizing...
To do this hobby right, according to the ways of the masters,
there's a pretty good chance that you're going to have to bend the law
to get the materials that you need.
If not, break it.
Yeah.
To break international laws.
Your life stories, really good ones.
This American Life.

President Trump says he's expanding his...
controversy of deployment of National Guard troops to other cities. In a social media post
Saturday, he says he will send troops to Portland, Oregon to handle domestic terrorists. But
Oregon Governor Tina Kotech says the deployment would be an abuse of power by the president.
There is no insurrection. There is no threat to national security. And there is no need for
military troops in our major city. Police officials in Portland, meanwhile, also say there's
no reason for that deployment. The wife of one of the victims,
of the shooting at a Dallas Ice Facility
is speaking out for the first time.
She says her husband is on life support
after a gunman injured him and another detainee
and killed a third person.
In pairs Sergio Martinez Beltran
has our reports.
Stephanie Gaffini says her husband
Miguel Angel Garcia Hernandez
is more than just an immigrant or an ice detainee.
He's a father of four,
and Gaffini could give birth to their fifth child,
a boy at any moment now,
since she's 39 weeks pregnant.
It hurts to think, like, what if he,
and everyone gets to meet him.
A Venezuelan detainee, Jose Andres, Bordones, Molina, was also injured in the shooting.
A third detainee was killed, 37-year-old Norland-Gusman Fuentes from El Salvador.
In a statement to NPR, ICE confirmed the identities of all three victims.
The agency says all three were, quote, criminal illegal aliens.
According to law enforcement officials, the shooter sought to terrorize ICE agents.
However, none of the victims were law enforcement officers.

Now that the Trump administration has announced that there may be a link between Tylenol and autism,
it could cause legal headaches for the painkiller's maker, Kenview.
NPR's Sydney Lumpkin has more on that.
One lawyer representing plaintiffs in an ongoing case against Tylenol's maker says his office received more than a thousand calls
following the Trump administration's announcement this week.
The lawsuit hit a roadblock in late 2023.
A judge ruled to exclude testimony from the plaintiff's experts.
She wrote that those experts cherry-picked and misinterpreted the data they were relying on.
But in light of the Trump administration's comments, lawyers for the plaintiffs hope the court will reconsider.
Outside legal experts tell NPR, however, that since there's no new data, it might not make a difference.
And in product liability cases, you have to prove causation, which hasn't been established.

A gunman opened fire.
on a crowded bar in the North Carolina
town of Southport Saturday night
at least three people were killed
another eight people were injured
in that shooting. The bar is on
a crowded riverfront in the city.
Police say that the gunman shot
at the bar from a boat and then sped away.
A person of interest is in custody,
but it's not clear if the shooter
is still at large. Officials have not offered
a motive for the shooting.

Dave Chappelle,
and Sari, Kevin Hart and others
are getting blowback from fellow comedians
for appearing at a comedy festival
that's going on right now in Saudi Arabia.
As MPR's Chloe Valpin reports,
the Riyadh comedy festival's roster includes dozens
of A-list American performers.
In a video on his Instagram channel,
Mark Maren took aim at colleagues
who signed up to perform at the festival.
Referencing, among other things,
Saudi officials' alleged involvement
in the September 11th attacks.
From the folks that brought you in 9-11,
Two weeks of laughter in the desert. Don't miss it.
Shane Gillis and Stavaros Halkias both declined invitations to appear at the event.
But others, including Chris DiStefano and Tim Dillon,
said they agreed to perform because of the high fees they were offered.
However, Dylan says his invitation was recently revoked by the organizers
for comments the comedian made on his podcast about slavery in Saudi Arabia.

A stampede at a rally for a popular Indian actor in politics.
In the southern state of Tamil Nadu Saturday night killed at least 36 people. 40 others were injured.
The dead included eight children. Officials say there were tens of thousands of people at the rally when the
stampede occurred. The weather was hot and health officials say at least 30 people fainted while waiting
for Vijay, who's known professionally by one name, to speak. Ukraine's Russian-occupied Zaporizia nuclear
power plant has now been operating on emergency power for five days. Officials say the situation is creating
mounting concerns about the plant's safety. The power outage began on Tuesday when the plant's
connection to the Ukrainian power grid was severed. I'm Dale Wilman, NPR News. This message comes
