A federal judge in Oregon has temporarily blocked President Donald Trump from sending National Guard troops to Portland.
From member station OPB, Joni Audenland, reports.
President Trump has said that violent protests outside the Portland Ice Building left the city, quote, war ravaged and threatened the safety of federal employees.
But Judge Karen Imrigate, a Trump appointee, said on her ruling that protests had generally been peaceful since June, with fewer than 20 protesters on average.
Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield celebrated the decision in a press conference and called it a healthy check on the president's power.
No president is allowed to make up facts or rely on social media trolling or posts when deploying the United States military in our cities.
The judge could extend a restraint in order on October 17th.

This move comes just days after a conservative online journalist was detained by
Portland Police and later released.
There is cautious optimism as both Israel and Hamas work through details of President Trump's

It's important to note that despite Trump thanking Israel for a halt to bombing in Gaza, they have
not stopped bombing. Today, there were dozens of airstrikes and nearly 50 people were killed,

Asmi Nicholson reports, politicians are pointing the finger at Moscow.
At least 6,500 passengers were impacted overnight into Saturday by suspected drone sightings at Munich Airport,
one of Germany's major aviation hubs.
The incident is the latest in a spate of drone sightings over airports, military bases and critical infrastructure in Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Norway and Poland.
German Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dorbrandt says he is planning legislation to make it easier for police to ask the military to shoot down drones.
He also says he backs plans for a drone wall comprising detection and countermeasures along NATO's eastern flank.

potentially over $30 million.
Robin says the showgirl movie
might not be as big a blockbuster
as Swift's wildly popular era's tour film was
in 2023. But its limited three-day run this weekend is nevertheless propping up the full
