Crime looks different than it used to.
A loophole in a crypto wallet could yield a billion dollars.
A deep fake of your voice could be used to steal money from your bank.
We have PhDs in our team, and they can't tell the difference themselves.
AI has gotten that good.
The indicator from Planet Money is digging into the evolving business of crime.

A federal judge Sunday temporarily blocked the turrets.
Trump administration from deploying any National Guard units to Oregon.
Trump was sending California Guard members to Portland after the same judge blocked the use of
Oregon Guard members. The Pentagon also says it's called up at least 300 members of the
Illinois National Guard for Federal Service. The news comes from a Pentagon memo,
NPR's Tom Bowman has more. This memo obtained by NPR calls for troops to deploy for 60 days
to Chicago. The troops are expected to deploy sometime this week, no idea exactly when,
and Hakesas' Saturday memo says the troops are there to protect facilities where, quote, violent demonstrations are occurring or could occur based on threat assessments.
Now, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has refused to deploy his guard to Chicago saying it's not necessary.
So President Trump took over the National Guard by federalizing them.
That's NPR's Tom Bowman.
The ongoing federal government shutdown means the government cannot release key economic data.
as NPR's Rafael NOM reports that could be a big problem for the Federal Reserve.
The Federal Reserve is an independent government agency that is not impacted by the shutdown.
But Fed officials will no longer have access to government data in a critical period for the economy.
The Fed lowered interest rates at its last policy meeting in September
and will need to decide what to do next later this month.
Investors will be keen to see what the Fed officials make of the economy
at a time one day may be flying partly blind with only access to data from non-government sources.
Fed Chair Jerome Powell is set to deliver a pre-recorded message at a community banking conference on Thursday.

President Trump has asked Israel to stop bombing Gaza after Hamas appeared to accept his plan to end the war there.
But as NPR's Anas Baba reports, deadly Israeli airstrikes are continuing to hit Gaza this weekend.
For a few hours on Saturday, residents in Gaza City walked the streets with a sense of relative safety.
After Israeli forces pulled back several hundred meters from the city center.
But the calm did not last long.
An air strike like this one overnight had the Abdel Aal family home without warning,
killing 18 people there and injuring more than 70 according to hospital records.
The military says it was targeting a Hamas militant who pulled.
the threat, but they didn't name the target or response to NPR's inquiry for more information.
Israeli drones, artillery, and gunfire have resumed around Gaza City.
The military says the city remains under an evacuation order, and the city is still cut off
from the south as displaced families wait for real ceasefire to return home.

U.S. officials are preparing to hold the government's largest coal sales in more than a decade.
The sale will take place later this month. About 600 million tons of coal will be auctioned
from publicly owned reserves in Montana and Wyoming. President Trump has repeatedly says
he wants to dig and burn more coal from federal lands despite the soft market for coal.
Taylor Swift is once again topping the charts this time at the box office with the film
complement to her 12th album, The Life of a Showgirl.
NPR's Ava Pugatch reports.
Now I know the life of a showgirl, babe.
The official release party of a showgirl took in an estimated $33 million at the domestic box office for the three-day event.
The film featured personal reflections from Swift, lyric videos, behind-the-scenes footage,
and premiered the music video for The Fate of Ophelia, the first single off the album.
This was Swift's second partnership with AMC theaters.
The first, the concert film of her heiress tour, is the highest grossing concert film of all time.

The death toll from the collapse of an Islamic boarding school in Indonesia has now reached at least 49.
The building fell in September 29th and East Java and trapped hundreds of students.
Rescuers found 35 bodies just this weekend.
Most of the students were boys between the ages of 12 and 19.
Police say two levels were being added to the building without a permit, and that caused the collapse.
