Demonstrators across the country are taking to the streets today to protest the policies of the Trump administration. The marches are part of the No King's movement. Bruce Convizer reports from New York where a massive rally is planned.
Starting point is 00:00:44 The No King's demonstrations will likely be the loudest expression of opposition to President Donald Trump since he took office in January. More than 2,500 rallies are planned across the country, but the largest one will likely be here in New York. Nationwide, more than 5 million protesters turned out for the last No King's protests in June, and organizers expect a bigger turnout today. At least tens of thousands are expected to take to the streets in New York. The protests come against the backdrop of a government shutdown, now in its third week, with all three branches of government under Republican control. Pussy Riot, the rebellious punk rock band from Russia, is expected to perform here,

A bipartisan group of senators will force a vote to limit President Trump's powers to enter into war with Venezuela. NPR's Claudia Grasales reports this comes amid fears that Trump will take the U.S. into a new military conflict. Virginia Democrat Tim Kaine is leading the bipartisan group to force the vote in the Senate following a 10-day waiting period. Kane says he's worried Congress is running out of time to stop Trump's escalation. campaign against Venezuela. Starting point is 00:02:05 planning makes me think there's some chances to be imminent. Kentucky Republican Rand Paul and California Democrat Adam Schiff have also signed on to force the vote. The move follows Trump ordered military strikes in the Caribbean, new covert operations, and plans to begin military operations inside Venezuela. Claude Rizales, NPR News. Iran says it's no longer bound by restrictions on its nuclear program as its 10-year deal with world powers expired today. The BBC's David Bamford reports, Tehran has repeatedly denied pursuing nuclear weapons.
Starting point is 00:02:44 The Iranian foreign ministry said the nuclear limits agreed in its landmark 2015 deal no longer apply as of today. Although Tehran added, it remained firmly committed to a diplomatic solution. Indirect talks between Iran and the US collapsed in June after American and Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. Iran suspended access to nuclear inspectors and said it was resuming nuclear enrichment for civilian use. In response, international sanctions have been reinstated. That's the BBC's David Bamford reporting.
Starting point is 00:03:19 This is NPR News in Washington. Ten people were hospitalized after a hospitalized after a third floor balcony near the University of Cincinnati collapsed on Friday night. Frank McKinley is chief of the Cincinnati Fire Department. One individual is in critical condition. The rest are non-life-threatening. Fire officials say the balcony may have failed under the weight of a crowd, possibly gathered, for a party. The Los Angeles Dodgers have advanced to Major League Baseball's World Series.
Starting point is 00:03:53 Chuck Kornbach reports the Dodgers swept the National League Chief. championship series last night, beating the Milwaukee Brewers. The Dodgers defeated the Milwaukee Brewers by a score five to one sweeping the team's National League championship series. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts says Shohei Otani's hitting and pitching was probably the best performance ever in postseason baseball. And there's been a lot of postseason games, and there's a reason why he's the greatest player on the planet, you know, what he did on the mound, what he did at the bat,
Starting point is 00:04:26 Next up for the Dodgers in the World Series will be the winner of the American League Championship Series between the Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays.
