Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Louise Skiyvone. Canada is now headed for a 10% U.S. tariff increase after the province of Ontario ran a television commercial criticizing tariffs. The advertisement, using the words of former President Ronald Reagan, ran during the first game of the World Series. President Trump angrily declared on his social media site, Truth Social, that the ad should never have run, and now he is ending trade talks with Canada.
President Trump is on the way to Malaysia to begin a three-nation visit to Asia.
He will meet Southeast Asian leaders at a summit and is expected to witness the signing of a peace treaty between Thailand and Cambodia.
Adam Hancock reports.
President Trump is making his first visit to Asia since taking office for the second time,
attending the ASEAN summit where he's expected to hold talks with the Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim
before witnessing the signing of a Thailand-Cambodia peace deal.
The U.S. leader has taken credit for ending the conflict, which saw dozens of people killed
and hundreds of thousands displaced during border skirmishes in July.
Tariffs are also set to be on the agenda after Trump targeted export-reliant economies in this region.
Trump will head to Japan on Monday before a scheduled meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea later in the week.

As the government shutdown continues, communities across the nation are,
bracing for food stamps to run out. Families turning to food banks for help, but those food banks
are also running low on supplies with demand doubling in many places. Carl Esquivel is
executive director at the Salvation Army in Aurora. We are already deplaning resources all the way to
December. This is our attempt of getting the story out there that food pantries, not just ours,
but many even smaller food pantries, right, are struggling to be able to meet the needs of our
community. This is day 25. This is NPR.
Catastrophic flooding is forecast for Jamaica as Hurricane Melissa moves slowly through the Caribbean
with maximum sustained winds of around 75 miles an hour. With its heavy wind and rain,
the storm has already killed at least three people in Haiti and one in the Dominican Republic.
Game two of the World Series is set for tonight. The Toronto Blue Jays lead the L.A. Dodgers
one game to none after taking the series opener 11 to 4.
Steve Futterman has details from Toronto.
Game one was a blowout.
Now the Blue Jays will try to take a two-game lead.
The heavily favored Dodgers are simply hoping to even things up.
Toronto is appearing in its first World Series since 1993.
Blue Jay manager John Schneider says he felt the energy from the fans inside the home stadium.
They've been waiting a long time for a World Series to come back here.
You can't take it for granted.
a special place to play. And everyone here in this city, you're in this building and across the
country, we feel it for sure. Game one featured the first pinch hit Grand Slam home run in World
Series history. It gave the Blue Jays a seven-run lead and essentially put the game out of reach.
For NPR News, I'm Steve Futterman at the World Series in Toronto. For the first time in more than
70 years, there likely will not be an inflation report from the government next month. The reason is
the government shut down, which is standing in the way of furloughed federal numbers crunchers,
as a result, Wall Street and the Federal Reserve will be lacking important data needed to calculate
their calculations about consumer prices. I'm Luis Giovanni and PR News.
