The Israeli military says it launched strikes on targets in Iran in the early hours of Saturday.
This all comes as the Biden administration is pushed for months to avoid a wider war
in the region.
And Piers Osmanhaled reports.
A senior administration official told reporters the United States did not participate in Israel's
military operation, though President Biden had encouraged Israel to pursue a targeted
response. And the U.S. official says that is what has transpired. The Israeli military has said these
strikes were in retaliation for months of continuous attacks from Iran against Israel.
The Biden administration official says this should now be the end of the direct exchange of fire
between Israel and Iran, though if Iran responds, the United States is prepared to help Israel.
The White House insists its aim in the region is to de-escalate tensions.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump campaigned in Texas Friday before he flew to
Michigan where he held a rally in Traverse City.
He told the crowd that everyone likes him him but one group in particular shows him strong
support. We're doing unbelievable with men that never had anything like it.
White men, black men, men like me. Vice President Kamala Harris meanwhile
addressed a capacity crowd at Houston's Shell Energy Stadium Friday. The theme
of the rally was reproductive freedom and as Houston Public Media's Andrew Schneider
reports Harris drew a direct line between former President Donald Trump's anti-abortion
rights policies and threats to women's lives.
Harris said that Texas and the country are facing a health care crisis because of the
repeal of Roe v. Wade.
She blasted Trump as the architect of the crisis,
saying the former president has claimed
he's proud about his role in the end of Roe.
And one has to ask, proud that women are dying?
Proud that doctors and nurses could be thrown in prison
for life, for administering life-saving care?
Proud that young women in America today have fewer rights than their mothers and grandmothers?
How dare he?
Harris claims that if Trump is re-elected, he will enact a nationwide abortion ban.
Trump has said he would leave abortion legislation to the states.

The former CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch has pleaded not guilty to federal sex
trafficking and interstate prostitution charges. Michael Jeffries entered his
plea Friday in a Long Island courtroom. He's free on a 10 million dollar bond.
Prosecutors alleged that the 80-year-old Jeffries, along with two other people,
lured men into sex parties in the Hamptons
by offering the possibility of modeling for the retailer's ads.
Stocks closed mostly down on Wall Street Friday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 259 points.

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees 6-3 in game one of the World Series
Friday night as Steve Futterman reports from Dodgers Stadium.
This has to go down as one of the most memorable World Series games in history.
There was such a buildup before this series.
The Dodgers and Yankees, New York, Los Angeles, Shohei Otani and Aaron Judge.
And in the end, game one ends on a dramatic walk off grand slam
homerun. The Dodgers were down to their final out. They were trailing three to
two. That's when Freddie Freeman hit the grand slam. The Dodgers win game one
6 to 3 and Freddie Freeman is the hero for MPR News. I'm Steve Futterman at
Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Law enforcement officials say Russian
actors made a video that pretends to show mail-in
ballots for Donald Trump being destroyed in Pennsylvania.
The FBI says it's part of Moscow's attempts to sow distrust in the election process in
the lead-up to the November elections.
The video began to be widely viewed on Thursday afternoon.
Health officials in Wisconsin say pizza that was inadvertently laced with THC has likely
sickened dozens of people there.
THC is the principal psychoactive ingredient in marijuana.
The officials say an employee of a pizza shop in Stoughton mistakenly used a jug of oil while making pizza.
The oil contained THC.
