Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Jail Snyder.
President Trump has overseen the signing of a deal normalizing relations between Thailand and Cambodia
after their short border war in July.
Speaking in Malaysia, Trump described the deal as a monumental step.
The agreement is not a final settlement, but it begins a process of demilitarization.
Thailand's foreign ministers say Hasak fin Kikial told reporters that the deal would change the situation on the ground.
We've made it known that we are looking ahead to restoring our ties and not only that
making our ties even better.
And this was in front of two friends and also in front of the press.
So I think that I'm confident that both sides are under obligation to implement what we've agreed.
President Trump says he's optimistic about a trade deal with China following talks between officials from Beijing
in Washington at the ASEAN summit in Malaysia.
Trump is set to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea.
Later this week, Adam Hancock has details.
Trade officials from the U.S. and China have been holding talks on the sidelines of the
ASEAN summit here in Kuala Lumpur, attempting to work out a deal ahead of the much-anticipated
meeting between the leaders of the world's two biggest economies.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the talks resulted in a, quote,
very successful framework, which will be discussed by Trump and she,
in South Korea. The U.S. President is threatening to slap 100% tariffs on China on November 1st
if a deal isn't reached. But today said he is optimistic about an agreement with Beijing
and expects future meetings with Chinese leaders, both in China and in the U.S.

Authorities in Paris have begun making arrests in last weekend's theft of some of the French
crown jewels from the Louvre Museum. The authorities say one suspect was apprehended last night
while trying to leave the country.
Hurricane morning in place for Jamaica, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic.
NPR's Matt Bloom reports that Hurricane Melissa is now a category four storm
with maximum sustained winds of 140 miles an hour.
Forecasters say the storm could continue to intensify before making landfall in the coming days.
Several deaths have already been reported in Haiti and the Dominican Republic due to flooding.
Authorities in Jamaica say they've activated.
hundreds of shelters and are warning residents of storm surge of up to 13 feet along parts of the
coast. The slow-moving hurricane is expected to drop as much as 40 inches of rain on the region
over the coming days, causing massive flooding, landslides, and power outages. Parts of Cuba,
the southeast Bahamas, and Turks and Caicos are also being warned of potential impacts this week.

Authorities in eastern Pennsylvania are investigating a shooting last night
that left one person dead and wounded six others.
The shooting happened during homecoming festivities on the campus of Lincoln University.
Christopher DeBrenna Sarabay is the Chester County District Attorney.
At about 9.30, just before 9.30, that festivity was interrupted and decimated by gunfire.
It was a chaotic scene and people fled in every direction.
Brenna Sarah Bay says one person who had a firearm was detained,
but authorities did not share the conditions of the injured.
Actress June Lockhart has died.
Her publicist says she died of natural causes at her home in Santa Monica, California.
She was best known to audiences for her roles in Lassie and Lost in Space.
Lockhart was 100 years old, as MPR's Chloe Veltman reports.
June Lockhart was one of television's most.
beloved mothers. She cared for an adopted son and a famous dog as Ruth Martin in the
popular series Lassie from 1958 to 1964. There's no room in this house for two stubborn
females. And later in the 1960s, Lockhart explored far off planets as the matriarch
Maureen Robinson in the Kitch Adventure series Lost in Space. Aren't you forgetting a small
ingredient for happiness known as love? The daughter of two actors, Lockhart was born in New York in
1925. Her family moved to Los Angeles a decade later. She made her screen debut in MGM's
1938 movie adaptation of a Christmas Carol, starring alongside her parents as the Cratchit
