Starting point is 00:00:00 Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Jail Snyder. Authorities in Paris say two suspects have been arrested linked to last weekend's heist of some of the French crown jewels at the Louvre Museum. Paris's prosecutor says the arrest were made last night and that one of the suspects was taken into custody as he was preparing to fly out of the country. President Trump has overseen the signing of a deal normalizing relations between Thailand and Cambodia after their short border war in July, Speaking in Malaysia, Trump described the deal as a monumental step. The agreement, not a final settlement, but begins the process of demilitarization. Thailand's foreign ministers say Asak Fian Kekal told reporters that the deal would change the situation on the ground. We've made it known that we are looking ahead to restoring our ties and not only that making our ties even better.

President Trump attending the summit of Southeast Asian nations in Kuala Lumpur and we'll meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Thursday. New Jersey, along with Virginia, are the only two states holding gubernatorial elections this year. And as Bruce Kahn-Pyzer reports in New Jersey, early voting began this weekend. The gubernatorial race in the Garden State is being closed. closely watched as a window into voters' take on the first months of the second Trump administration.
Starting point is 00:01:33 Democratic Congresswoman Mikey Sherrill is leading in polls, though the margin has narrowed over her Republican opponent Jack Chittarelli over the past few months. Governor Phil Murphy, a Democrat is term limited and approaching the end of his eight-year run. Two historical trends will collide in this election. It has been a hundred years since Democrats won three consecutive gubernatorial races in New Jersey. Yet it has been more than 50 years since New Jersey voters elected a governor who belong to the same party as the sitting U.S. president. For NPR news, I'm Bruce Convizer in Greenbrook, New Jersey. Starting point is 00:02:15 continue to intensify before making landfall in the coming days. Several deaths have already been reported in Haiti and the Dominican Republic due to flooding. Authorities in Jamaica say they've activated hundreds of shelters and are warning residents of storm surge of up to 13 feet along parts of the coast. The slow-moving hurricane is expected to drop as much as 40 inches of rain on the region over the coming days, causing massive flooding, landslides, and power outages. Parts of Cuba, the southeast Bahamas, and Turks and Caicos are also being warned of potential impacts this week. Matt Bloom, NPR News. And this is NPR News.
Starting point is 00:03:00 Authorities in Eastern Pennsylvania investigating a shooting last night that left one person dead and wounded six others. The shooting happened during homecoming festivities on the campus of Lincoln University. Christopher de Brina Sarabe is the Chester County District Attorney. At about 9.30, just before 9.30, that festivity was interrupted and decimated by gunfire. It was a chaotic scene, and people fled in every direction. Marina Sarabay says one person who had a firearm was detained, but authorities did not share the conditions of the injured. Lincoln University is a historically black school about an hour's drive southwest of Philadelphia. A 19-year-old Vanderbilt University student has won half a million dollars after successfully kicking a 33-yard field goal.
Starting point is 00:03:49 Cynthia Abrams with member station WPLN reports that the spectacle was part of ESPN, College Game Day kicking contest. It was the first time ESPN's College Game Day, which each week selects the site of a highly anticipated football matchup, had chosen Vanderbilt's campus since 2008.
Starting point is 00:04:10 Even with the school on college football's biggest stage, sophomore Tyler Wang didn't falter. The chemical engineering and economics major, who played soccer and football in high school, nailed the 33-yard attempt on his first kick while only wearing a pair of socks.
