The presidential campaigns are focusing on key swing states this weekend.
Kamala Harris will be in Philadelphia today after campaigning in Michigan yesterday with
former First Lady Michelle Obama.
This was the first time the two have appeared together as Harris focuses her campaign on
reproductive rights.
NPR's Deepa Sivaram reports.
In Kalamazoo, Obama said people were holding Harris and her opponent, former President
Trump, to different standards. She also spoke at length directly to men about how further
limits and restraints on access to women's health care would impact them and their sons
too.
So I am asking y'all from the core of my being to take our lives seriously.
Please.
Her remarks echoed what Harris has been saying over the weekend as she tries to
increase support from men who are favoring Trump over her.
Deepa Shivaram, NPR News, Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Former president Donald Trump was also in Pennsylvania yesterday seeking support from young men during a rally at Penn State University.
Kamala will destroy your inheritance but much more importantly she's going to
destroy your country. If you vote for me I will ensure that you begin your
careers young people in a roaring economy in a time of unprecedented peace
and prosperity. Trump is taking his campaign to New York City's Madison Square Garden for a rally tonight.
Israel is holding an official Memorial Day to commemorate its civilians, soldiers and
officers who were killed throughout the continuing war.
NPR's Daniel Estrin reports from Tel Aviv there were deadly new Israeli strikes in north
Gaza and a
truck ramming in central Israel. Israeli police say a truck driver rammed into a
group of people at a bus stop next to a military intelligence base, wounding
several dozen people before armed civilians shot the driver. In Gaza, health
officials report more than 30 people killed in Beit Lahya in North Gaza
Saturday night. Gaza's civil defense first responder group says it's no longer able to respond to calls
for help because of the intense Israeli military assault there.
Israel is holding official memorial ceremonies marking the anniversary, according to the
Hebrew calendar, of the deadly October 7th Hamas attack on Israel and commemorating those
civilians, soldiers and security personnel also killed
in the past year of war.

The United Nations Security Council is expected to convene tomorrow at the request of Iran
to discuss Israel's attacks on Iran this weekend.
It claims the attacks violate international law.
The Israeli ambassador to the UN called it another attempt by Iran to harm Israel, this
time in the diplomatic arena.
Ambassador Danny Dannen said Israel has the right and duty to defend itself and protect
its citizens.

Japan is holding parliamentary elections today.
According to exit polls, the liberal Democratic Party of Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba is
expected to likely to lose the majority in the 465-seat house.
Ishiba had called for the snap elections shortly after taking office this month, hoping to
win public support for his leadership.
His predecessor had resigned over the cost of living and a scandal involving donations
to lawmakers. Tens of thousands of demonstrators from the left and the right took to the streets
of London this weekend in three separate protest marches. Vicki Barker reports from the British
Capitol. Supporters of the far-right figure Tommy Robinson waved British flags and chanted his name at
their London march, supporting those arrested in this summer's racist anti-immigrant riots.
Robinson wasn't there.
He'd been jailed for contempt of court after repeating libelous allegations against a Syrian
refugee.
Police held them away from this. 19th March, 19th March, 19th March.
Counter-demonstrators from the organization stand up to racism.
At a separate march against police brutality, the family of Chris Cabba
delivered a letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer
protesting the acquittal of the police officer who shot the unarmed 40-year-old
to death two years ago.
For NPR News, I'm Vicki Barker in London.
