Hey there, it's Tamara Keith. I cover the White House. I know this is hard to believe,
but one day the election will be over. Then the winner gets a lot more powerful. It's
my job to report on what they do with that power. That's public accountability, but
it's not possible without public support. So please support our work. Sign up for NPR

Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Janine
Hurst. Former President Trump is campaigning tonight in the deep blue state of New York.
He's at Madison Square Garden in an hours-long rally. A number of speakers have already taken
the stage, including Hulk Hogan, JD Vance, and House Speaker Mike Johnson. Most spent
their time slamming Democrats and Harris in particular, and disparaging Puerto Rico.
One comedian who spoke compared the U.S. territory
to an island of garbage,
drawing instant criticism from the Democrats.
Trump is expected to take the stage soon.
Meanwhile, Vice President Harris campaigned
throughout Philadelphia today,
culminating at a rally at a community center in North Philly.
We have an opportunity before us to turn the page on the fear and the divisiveness that
have characterized our politics for a decade because of Donald Trump.
Harris urged the people to make sure they get out and vote.
South Korean intelligence officials will brief NATO representatives on the latest evidence
that North Korean soldiers are helping Russia fight Ukraine.
Terry Schultz reports Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says North Koreans are
on the front line in Kursk, the Russian region where Ukraine seized some territory in August.
NATO allies will discuss a response to reports initially issued by South Korea, now confirmed
by the U.S. and other governments, that thousands of North Korean troops have joined Russian
forces.
Ukraine says as many as 12,000 North Koreans may be in training for this effort.
The deputy chief of South Korea's intelligence service will lead a high-ranking delegation
to Brussels, where they'll also meet European Union representatives to share information
about the North Korean troop deployments.
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte has said if North Korea is aiding Moscow in this way,
it would be important a significant escalation in the conflict.
For NPR News, I'm Terri Schulz in Brussels.
Investors on Wall Street are facing a big week of economic reports and earnings this
week, including a critical report on jobs.
And Pierce Rafael Nam has more.
The economy so far has held up far better than many had expected.
But can that continue?
We'll get some big clues this week with a bunch of earnings reports from big companies, including
Amazon and McDonald's.
The US will also issue an economic report card of its own on Wednesday when the government
reports how much the economy grew from July to September.
Then on Friday we'll get the latest jobs data.
These two big economic reports come just days before the Federal Reserve's meeting
next week. They also come just before another big day for the country, Election Day. Rafael
Nam, NPR News.
Danielle Pletka U.S. futures contracts are trading higher at
this hour. Dow futures up about three-tenths of a percent. NASDAQ futures are up more than
a half percent. This is NPR News.
The 49th annual Marine Corps Marathon brought
tens of thousands of participants up to the nation's capital today. Ampere's Amy Held
reports the first place winner brought the medal home to the Marines.
Come on!
Kyle King led the pack crossing the finish line of first. He spoke about it with NBC4
Washington.
That was probably the most painful marathon I've ever ran. King of California also won the marathon in 2022. The Marine says his military training has
helped him power through the 26.2 mile course, which is open to everyone. The race was founded
with the goal of bridging the gap between the military and civilian populations. Some 30,000
people take part from all 50 states and across the world.
The Marine Corps Marathon has become known as the People's Marathon. Not all
our runners, wounded veterans also race on wheels. As for King, he says he has a
post-race plan.
Oh yeah, I'm gonna eat a lot after this.
Amy Held and PR News.
For the seventh year in a row, the start of California's commercial
Dungeness crab season has been delayed to protect humpback whales from becoming entangled in trap and buoy lines.
The State Department of Fish and Wildlife says commercial crabbing will be delayed at least until December 1st.
That commercial season typically starts in mid-November.
The commercial crab industry is one of California's major fisheries, and shellfish is especially popular around the holidays.
Humpback whales can get caught in ropes connected to heavy commercial traps, leaving them injured,
starved or so exhausted that they can drown.
Crude oil futures are sharply lower, down 4.4 percent at $68.59 a barrel.
I'm Janene Herbst, NPR News in Washington.
