Making time for the news is important, but when you need a break, we've got you covered on All Songs Considered, NPR's music podcast.
Think of it like a music discovery show, a well-deserved escape with friends, and, yeah, some serious music insight.
I'm going to keep it real. I have no idea what the story is about it.
Hear new episodes of All Songs Considered every Tuesday, wherever you get podcasts.
Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Giles Snyder.
The government shutdown is now when it's 20.
27th day. And congressional leaders say they are no closer to an agreement to end it.
That says more than a million federal workers have missed a paycheck and a popular food assistance program is almost out of money.
NPR Sam Greenglass says more.
This shutdown is now the second longest in U.S. history.
But both Republicans and Democrats see coming impacts that could compel the other side to back down.
Democrats like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries think expiring health care subsidies will be harder for Republicans.
Republicans to ignore after November 1st when open enrollment begins for Affordable Care Act
Marketplace plans.
Tens of millions of Americans are going to wake up to the reality that their premiums,
co-pays, and deductibles are about to explode.
That same day, funding for the food assistance program, SNAP, is expected to run out.
And Republicans are warning of flight cancellations and delays if the shutdown persist through
Thanksgiving.
Sam Greenglass, NPR News, Washington.
The president of the largest federal worker union is calling the shutdown an avoidable crisis.
American Federation of Government Employees leader Everett Kelly calling on Congress to end the shutdown by passing a clean continuing resolution.
Indiana, Governor Mike Braun is calling a special session for next week to vote on congressional redistricting, making Indiana the fourth Republican-led state to do so.
Ethan Sanwise from member station WFIU reports.
Indiana has been under pressure from President Trump's administration to draw new boundaries that
could give Republicans additional U.S. House seats. Vice President Vance visited the State House in
recent months, urging lawmakers to join the redistricting push. Republicans hold a supermajority in Indiana
State House. It's unclear whether lawmakers have the votes to pass a new map. Texas, Missouri,
and North Carolina have drawn new districts favoring Republicans, while Virginia and California are
preparing to counter with Democrat-leaning seats. For NPR News, I'm Ethan Sandweiss in Bloomington, Indiana.
To Jamaica now where authorities have ordered evacuations in several areas are
urging residents to seek immediate shelter because of Hurricane Melissa.
Forecasters say the storm is now a category five and could be among the most powerful ever to hit the island.
The National Hurricane Center is warning of catastrophic flooding.
Reporter Nick Davis is there.
The storm has slowly been moving along the south coast.
Between 3 and 7 miles an hour for about a day, only about 100 miles out.
But it's due to turn inland tonight, bringing record levels of rainfall, up to 30 inches.
so with that extensive flooding, this storm is huge.
It'll cover the island with major hurricane conditions,
and so the government has put in place a mandatory evacuation order
in some low-lying areas.
Hurricane Melissa is expected to make landfall in the early hours of tomorrow morning
and be here for almost 12 hours before it leaves.
For NPR News, I'm Nick Davis in Jamaica.

Game 3 of the World Series will be getting underway in a few hours,
It's being played in Los Angeles.
The L.A. Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays have each won one game of the best of seven.
Reporter Steve Futterman has this preview.
The Blue Jays won game one.
The Dodgers took game two.
Now the series has moved 2100 miles from Toronto to here in Los Angeles.
Pitching tonight for the Blue Jays will be 41-year-old Max Scherzer.
This is his fourth world series.
He is doing it with his fourth different team.
He says he's grateful just to be.
here. I mean, this is what you play for, to be able to get to this spot, to get to this moment,
to have a shot at it. The Dodgers are still the clear favorite. L.A. with its power lineup is trying
to become the first team to win back-to-back World Series in 25 years. For NPR News, I'm Steve
Futterman at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles. Sunday's midterm election victory by the party of
Argentine President Avir Miele sparked a rally in Argentina assets today. Argentine stocks jumped more
than 20 percent, and the peso surge.
Official results show voters strongly backed Muley's free market reforms last week.
President Trump linked the $40 billion he pledged to help avert currency crisis to a
Milay victory.
Wall Street, stocks climbed to more records, the S&P 500, the Dow and the NASDAQ, each set
all-time highs ahead of Thursday's meeting between President Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping
that could ease trade war fears.
The two expected to discuss a framework of a deal that could.
