Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris campaigned in the battleground state of Pennsylvania on Sunday. She went to church in Philadelphia and later held a rally at a community center in North
Starting point is 00:00:32 Philly. She told attendees that the November election provides a chance for Americans to move the country into the future. We have an opportunity before us to turn the page on the fear and the divisiveness that have characterized our politics for a decade because of Donald Trump. Republican candidate Trump, meanwhile, was in New York City where he held a rally at Madison Square Garden. Brooklyn resident Ying Tan was among those who were at the rally.
Starting point is 00:01:01 She says she's been campaigning for Trump in Pennsylvania. He knows what is the best for American people. I think at this point we need to secure the border. We have to fix the migrant issue right now because the migrant crisis is actually affecting every district in our country. During his speech, Trump said that on his first day in office he would begin the largest deportation of undocumented immigrants in the country's history. McDonald's says it will resume selling quarter pounder sandwiches this week at hundreds of restaurants that were affected by an E. coli bacteria outbreak this month. At least 75 people have been sickened in the outbreak and one person in Colorado has died. McDonald's says testing by the Colorado Department of
Starting point is 00:01:42 Agriculture has ruled out beef patties as the source of the outbreak. The Food and Drug Administration, meanwhile, says onions from a single supplier are the likely cause. Japan's ruling party lost its parliamentary majority in general elections over the weekend, hinting at potential political instability. As NPR's Anthony Kuhn reports, the Liberal Democratic Party, or LDP, has ruled Japan for most of the past seven decades. Opposition lawmakers beat out ruling party ones 235 to 215, but no party or coalition got a majority in the House of Representatives.
Starting point is 00:02:18 Opposition parties won by aiming for the political center and capitalizing on popular anger at corruption within the LDP. Now the parties will have to horse-trade to form a new governing coalition. If the ruling party needs the opposition's help to get its bills through Parliament, it may find its hands tied in pursuing its policy agenda. That could affect Japan's efforts to give the US economic, military, and political help in its competition with China. Anthony Kuhn in PR News Seoul. Former Bolivian President Evo Morales says that he has survived an assassination attempt
Starting point is 00:02:54 that took place on Sunday after unidentified men opened fire on his car. He was not injured in the alleged attack. Morales is blaming the current government for the attack, saying it was part of a conspiracy by his political opponents to consolidate their control over the government and to eliminate the threat that the leftist leader poses to their power base. Starting point is 00:03:28 and it appears the Dodgers star player will be in the lineup. Steve Futterman reports. In Game 2 on Saturday, the Dodgers' Shohei Otani was in visible pain as he slightly dislocated his left shoulder while trying to steal second base. There were questions about whether Otani would play tonight. LA manager Dave Roberts says Otani is feeling better and expects him to be in the lineup. Guys have had this before and played and again it's just everyone's tolerance. For the Yankees they have a much bigger problem. They need to win and also find a way to get their top player Aaron Judge to emerge from
Starting point is 00:04:02 a hitting slump. Tonight isn't mathematically an elimination game but only one major league team has ever come back to win a seven game series after losing the first three. For NPR News, I'm Steve Futterman in New York. The start of the commercial Dungeness crab season in California is being delayed for the seventh straight year. The delay will protect humpback whales from getting entangled in trap and buoy lines. State officials say the delay will run until at least December 1st, the season traditionally
Starting point is 00:04:29 begins in mid-November. There was little movement in the AP College football rankings this week. Oregon remains at number one, followed by Georgia, Penn State, and the Ohio State University. Miami though slid into fifth following their win over cross-state rival Florida State on Saturday making them 8-0 in the season.
