Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe started the rally with remarks that included a joke referring to Puerto Rico as a, quote, floating island of garbage. Another speaker seemed to imply that Vice President Harris is a prostitute. All told, more than four hours of speakers preceded Trump. During his speech, Trump doubled down on recent comments calling some Democrats the enemy
Starting point is 00:01:32 from within and suggesting he'd use the military against them. And when I say the enemy from within, the other side goes crazy, becomes this albaho. How can he say, no, they've done very bad things to this country. They are indeed the enemy from within. Trump is rallying supporters across swing states this week. South Korean intelligence officials will brief NATO representatives soon on the latest evidence that North Korean soldiers are helping Russia in their fight with Ukraine.
Starting point is 00:02:03 As Terry Schultz reports, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says North Koreans are now on the front line in Kursk, the Russian region where Ukraine sees some territory in August. NATO allies will discuss a response to reports initially issued by South Korea, now confirmed by the U.S. and other governments, that thousands of North Korean troops have joined Russian forces. Ukraine says as many as 12,000 North Koreans may be in training for this effort. The deputy chief of South Korea's intelligence service will lead a high-ranking delegation to Brussels, where they'll also meet European
Starting point is 00:02:35 union representatives to share information about the North Korean troop deployments. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte has said if North Korea is aiding Moscow in this way, it would be important a significant escalation in the conflict for NPR news. I'm Terry Schultz in Brussels Israel's attack on Iran this weekend damaged facilities at a secretive military base in the southeast area of Tehran It was once linked to the country's past nuclear weapons program Also struck was another base that's tied to Iran's ballistic missile program. Egypt Sunday proposed a two-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, during which four hostages held in Gaza would be freed, while some Palestinian prisoners would also be released and humanitarian aid would be sent to Gaza. Talks would also resume on making the ceasefire permanent. So far, neither Hamas or Israel have responded to the offer. Last week a federal judge ordered Virginia return about 1,600 people to voting rolls. Virginia had immediately appealed. The case stems from a new effort by Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin to remove alleged noncitizens from voter rolls. But the Department of Justice argued that it violated laws limiting when people could be removed. Civic groups argued that most of the 1600 were citizens caught up in the effort. The court also said that despite the state's repeated claims that most of
Starting point is 00:04:20 those removed were non-citizens, they didn't rebut evidence to the contrary presented at the trial last week. After the ruling last week, former President Donald Trump said he would come to Virginia. He'll be here Saturday. For NPR News, I'm Chad Kaleel in Richmond.
