Starting point is 00:00:00 Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Kourva Coleman. President Trump says he hopes to reach an agreement in a meeting with China's leader tomorrow despite current trade tensions. NPR's Anthony Kuhn reports Trump's in South Korea for bilateral meetings and a regional summit. President Trump told a meeting of business executives he expected to reach a deal that would be good for both the U.S. and China. He told South Korean President E.J. Myeong meeting China's leader Xi Jinping was the main focus of his visit to South Korea. But in the future, Trump said, he would work to resolve the conflict between North and South Korea. I know you are officially at war, but we will see what we can do to get that all straightened out. Gyeongju is the capital of the Shilla Kingdom, which ruled much of the Korean Peninsula over a thousand years ago. President E gifted Trump a gold crown of the sort Shilla Kings once wore.
Starting point is 00:00:49 President Trump did not immediately try it on. Anthony Kuhn in PR News, Gyeongju, South Korea. The National Hurricane Center says Hurricane Melissa is roaring over Cuba. It's a Category 3 storm. Melissa was a Category 5 storm when it smashed into Jamaica yesterday with top-sustained winds of 185 miles per hour. This is day 29 of the federal government shutdown. Federal funding for food assistance known as SNAP will stop on Saturday,
Starting point is 00:01:17 but some local governments are taking action. From member station WUWM in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mayan Silver reports. If SNAP disappears, even temporarily, food pantries around the country will face seemingly insurmountable demands. So, Milwaukee officials declared a city and county-wide food drive in an attempt to make a dent. Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services Director Shakeda LaGrant McLean implored the community to donate food or volunteer. And so if the administration does not want to provide the services, look at us stepping up and providing the resources. We sit communities and families across in all of our neighborhoods. A number of states have pledged to backfill food aid for recipients
Starting point is 00:02:02 or provide more funding for food banks and pantries. For NPR News, I'm Ayon Silver in Milwaukee. A federal judge is ordering the senior Customs and Border Patrol agent Gregory Bovino to report to her every day. Bovino has been a public face of the Trump administration's deportation braids. For member station WBEZ in Chicago, Chip Mitchell, a U.S. District Judge here ordered Bovino back to her courtroom every evening at six over the next week. That's after his team used riot control weapons like tear gas in several instances
Starting point is 00:02:36 against people who she said seemed to pose no immediate threat. The judge also ordered to turn over eight weeks of use of force reports and body camera footage. Federal attorneys objected to all her orders, but the judge warned she didn't want to see any children tear gassed on Halloween. For NPR news, I'm Chip Mitchell in Chicago. This is NPR. Israel says it has resumed the ceasefire in Gaza. Israel's prime minister ordered troops to attack Gaza yesterday. That was after he accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire.
Starting point is 00:03:11 Authorities in Gaza say more than 100 people were killed in Israeli attacks in 12 hours. 46 of the victims were children. The CEO of Big Tech Company, NVIDIA, says the computer chip maker will, team up with the U.S. Department of Energy. He says NVIDIA will work with the Energy Department to build seven new AI supercomputers. Officials say it's intended to boost scientific discovery. At the World Series, the Toronto Blue Jays have evened things up at two games apiece. They beat the Los Angeles Dodgers last night in L.A. 6 to 2.
Starting point is 00:03:45 Steve Futterman reports. 24 hours after losing an 18-inning heartbreaker, the Blue Jays came through to beat the defending champions. The key blow came in the third inning. With the Dodgers up 1-0, Toronto slugger, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., face Dodger, superstar hitter and pitcher, Shohei Otani. Swang and a drive. Left field. That one towards the bleachers and gone. The call on ESPN radio, the two-run homer put the Blue Jays on top 2 to 1.
Starting point is 00:04:14 Toronto pitcher Shane Bieber says the Blue Jays refused to focus on their game 3 marathon loss. We really feel like we've got no choice, and we continue. you to grind.
