Earlier in Phoenix, Arizona, Harris made a direct appeal to independent and Republican voters.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Here's NPR's Tamara Keith. Harris criticized former President Trump for remarks saying he would protect women whether they like it or not, linking that to his views on reproductive freedom. He simply does not respect the freedom of women or the intelligence of women to know what's in their own best interests and make decisions accordingly. But we trust women. We trust women. She also urged Arizona's to vote yes on Proposition 139, a ballot measure that would expand abortion access in the state. Tamara Keith, NPR News, traveling with the vice president. Starting point is 00:01:45 depicting Haitians claiming they voted illegally for Kamala Harris. Raffensperger says the footage was likely produced at Russian troll farms targeting certain U.S. voters. In a message on the social media site X, he says he learned of the fake video after being alerted by U.S. cyber security and the infrastructure security agency. An IV fluid production plant damaged by Hurricane Helene is partially back online. NPR's Sydney Lupkin reports that it's a welcome development for medical facilities that are facing shortages.
Starting point is 00:02:16 Sydney Lupkin, NPR News Anchor A Baxter International factory in North Carolina had to shut down more than a month ago because of flooding from Hurricane Helene. Before being knocked out of commission, the factory made 60% of the IV fluids used in hospitals around the country. The resulting shortage means hospitals are conserving IV bags for the neediest patients and postponing or canceling some procedures. The Biden administration invoked the Defense Production Act to help Baxter get materials needed to clean and rebuild the factory. Now Baxter is restarting production lines of the most commonly used IV fluids. It'll take time for the new supplies to reach hospitals, however.
Starting point is 00:02:51 The first batches of IV fluids won't be shipped until late November, Baxter said. Sydney Lepkin, NPR News. Boeing is making another contract offer to its striking machinists, a vote is set for Monday. Roughly 33,000 UIA machinists walked off their jobs in September after rejecting a previous offer. The head of the International Association of Machinists says its members are trying to recoup the concessions they made over the past decade.
Starting point is 00:03:17 This is NPR News. Rescue efforts continue in eastern Spain, where flash floods have claimed at least 158 lives. The country's transport minister said the death toll will likely rise as crews recover bodies from mud-laden vehicles. The disaster was triggered by unusual rainfall earlier in the week. Chat GBT maker OpenAI is entering the online search business. As NPR's Bobby Allen reports, the company has announced a new web search tool that could
Starting point is 00:03:49 pose a threat to Google's dominance. Google is still the verb many people use when talking about searching the internet, but that could soon change. Now ChatGPT Search has entered the search ring. Real-time information about news events, stocks, sports scores, movie listings will be synthesized in OpenAI's latest offerings. Google is still a fierce competitor with more than 80% of the online search market share in the U.S. But increasingly, competitors like TikTok, YouTube, AI Tool, Perplexity, and others have become go-to ways of finding information fast. OpenAI has shot to one

Danielle Pletka A Western New York man is pleading with authorities to return a rescued squirrel he named Peanut. 34-year-old Mark Longo says agents from the State Department of Conservation have raided his house without a search warrant in search of the squirrel. A spokesman for DEC says the agency received multiple reports about the potentially unsafe housing of wildlife that could carry rabies. Longo says he fears that Peanut, who gained fame on social media, has been put to death.
