Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Willman. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump held a rally in Pennsylvania Sunday where he told the crowd he wouldn't mind if it would be assassin shot through the media to try and get to him. His comments were met with cheers. Later in the day he

We're just two days away from what will be the most important political event in the history of our country, I believe that. But you have to do one little thing. I don't want your money. I don't want anything. The only thing I want is get out and vote. Just get out, finish it. Trump also said he shouldn't have left the White House after losing the election in 2020. On the eve of election day, Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign is planning a live stream show to connect organizing events across all seven key swing states.
Starting point is 00:01:08 As NPR's Asma Khalid reports, it's a final push before voting ends. The Harris campaign has been touting its ambitious ground game, knocking on over 13 million doors and insisting that their internal data shows that voters making up their minds in these final days are trending toward Harris. But still in a sign of how tight this race looks in the polls, they are trying to mobilize voters with a massive interconnected show on Monday. The live stream will tie together performances and speeches in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Harris herself will close out

The vaccination effort against polio in Gaza is almost finished. More than 450,000 children in central and southern Gaza have now received a second dose which is needed to stop transmission. And the last phase is underway in Northern Gaza where fighting has been especially intense. NPR's Julianna Kim has more on our story. The United Nations reported that nearly 60,000 children in Northern Gaza received the final dose of the polio vaccine on Saturday.
Starting point is 00:02:22 The goal is to vaccinate 100,000 children in the region before the campaign wraps up on Monday. Getting this done in northern Gaza has been tough though. The Israeli military only agreed to pause fighting in Gaza City, arguing that people in other areas have been largely evacuated. Still, the UN says there's about 15,000 kids in northern areas outside Gaza City and missing them could undermine the vaccine campaign. Julianna Kim, NPR News. Moldova's pro-western president claimed victory in Sunday's closely fought election with more than 98 percent of the ballots counted. Maya Sandhu led her opponent with 54.35 percent of the vote.
Starting point is 00:03:05 The victory will likely accelerate the nation's push to leave Moscow's orbit and instead join the European Union. You're listening to NPR News. Canada is expected to unveil Monday the details of its plan to cap emissions of greenhouse gases from the oil and gas sectors. The Liberal government wants the energy industry to cut emissions by 37 percent below 2022 levels and to do so by 2030. The proposals will start a cap-and-trade system that recognizes better performing companies,
Starting point is 00:03:38 and higher polluting industries would get incentives to invest in pollution-cutting projects. Authorities in Uganda said Sunday that 14 people were killed by lightning at a refugee camp there. As Kate Bartlett reports, those killed are believed to be mostly children who were attending a church service. The Ugandan police said more than a dozen people died and dozens more were injured when the lightning struck a church during a prayer meeting at the Palabek refugee camp on Saturday
Starting point is 00:04:04 evening. The building was a makeshift metallic structure. The refugee camp is in a remote part of northern Uganda, near the border with troubled South Sudan. It hosts about 80,000 refugees, mainly from that country. Deadly lightning strikes are not uncommon in the region during the rainy season. For NPR News, I'm Kate Bartlett in Johannesburg.
