Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Shea Stevens.
The Associated Press is projecting Zora Mamdani as the winner of the New York City mayoral's race.
NPR's Brian Mann has reaction from Mamdani's campaign headquarters in Brooklyn.
A huge cheer went up here at Mondani Celebration headquarters in Brooklyn.
When word came across that he's been declared the winner,
people here have been joyous all night talking about.
This campaign, which they see as a game changer, not just for New York City, but for U.S. politics.
Person after person who I interviewed said the tone of this campaign brought hope into American politics for the first time in their view in years.
People say that the policies that Mondani has supported making the city more affordable, more livable, could really change things here and make their lives better.
NPR's Brian Mann reporting.
The AP projects Democrat Mikey Cheryl to win the New Jersey governor's race, and in Virginia, the AP is projecting Democrat Abigail Spanberger to be that state's next governor.
Hose are now closed in California where voters have decided to withdraw the state's congressional maps.
KVCR's Madison Allmit is in Corona, one of the districts that will be redrawn.
Proposition 50 is Governor Gavin Newsom's response to Texas's redistricting plan to gain Republican seats.
If Prop 50 passes, it would give Democrats the edge in,
five districts including in Corona. That'd likely spell the end for Republican Congressman Ken
Calvert, who's represented the area for more than three decades. But Prop 50 opponents, like no
voter Steve Anderson, say it's overreach from the governor. I'm trying to keep all my voter
rights exactly the way they are. Keep everything where the politicians aren't taking over.
Prop 50's lines would expire in 2030 when the task of redrawing district maps would go back to
California's independent redistricting commission. For NPR news, I'm
The Pentagon is reporting two deaths from the latest U.S. strike on a small boat in the
Eastern Pacific. NPR's Quill-Lorence has details.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hakesh announced on social media that U.S. forces had targeted
what he claimed were drug traffickers in the Eastern Pacific. The administration maintains
it is at war with drug cartels, and that makes it legal for the U.S. military to kill alleged
traffickers even if they're unarmed and not threatening U.S. forces. Critics in Congress from
both parties say these orders defy U.S. military and international law and amount to execution
without trial. Nearly 70 people have been killed in these type of strikes. This latest is at least
the 16th in the Pacific and the Caribbean, where a growing U.S. fleet is gathering off the coast of
Venezuela. The Trump administration has stated a goal of displacing Venezuelan leader
Nicolas Maduro and is offering a reward of up to 50 million dollars for information leading
to his capture. Quill Lawrence NPR News.
A UPS plane crashed in Louisville today, killing at least seven people and injuring seven others,
including two people with critical burns. The Federal Aviation Administration says the aircraft
was departing for Honolulu when it crashed at the Muhammad Ali International Airport.
A video shows the aircraft in flames before takeoff. Crews are still working to douse the fire.

in wake of Hurricane Melissa.
Details from NPR's Michelle Kellerman.

is the Trump administration's first major humanitarian response
after the dismantlement of the U.S. Agency for International Development.
The State Department is now in the lead of foreign assistance.
The initial funding includes $12 million for Jamaica,
$8.5 million for Haiti, and $3 million for Cuba.
There, the Catholic Church will deliver U.S. assistance.
not the Cuban government. A top State Department officials says a disaster team of more than 30
U.S. government officials remains in Jamaica and will announce further aid packages after assessing the
needs. Michelle Kellerman, NPR News, the State Department. Former Vice President Dick Cheney
has died at the age of 84. Cheney served alongside President George W. Bush and was a staunch
supporter of enhanced surveillance and detention following the 9-11 attacks in 2001.
Janie was also a fierce critic of President Trump.
