Socialist Democrat Zora Mamdani has won the mayor's race in New York City, according to the Associated Press.
Mamdani defeated former governor, Andrew Como, who ran as an independent and Republican radio host Curtis Sleba.
Democrat Mikey Sherrill is the winner of the New Jersey race for governor, according to the AP,
and elated Cheryl addressed supporters late Tuesday in Newark.
Well, they always say we're loud, but man, with this vote, you guys just scream from the rooftop.
Cheryl thanked a Republican opponent, former state legislator Jack Chittarelli, who was endorsed by President Trump.
According to the AP Democratic former Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger will be the next governor of Virginia and the first woman to lead the state,
the former congresswoman and CIA veteran defeated Republican lieutenant governor winsome Sears, who did not receive
a personal endorsement from Trump.
California voters easily approved a ballot measure
that's aimed at giving Democrats five more seats in Congress
in next year's midterms.
From member station, KQED, Marissa Lagos, has more.
Voters in this solidly Democratic state overwhelmingly approved
the initiative, known as Proposition 50.
Its passage is a huge win for California Governor Gavin Newsom
and House Democrats, who crafted the measure in August
after President Donald Trump demanded Texas redraw
its maps to give the GOP five more safe house seats.
Speaking Tuesday night, Newsom said Prop 50 was about holding Trump accountable.
And so I want to thank everybody that stood up not just for our democracy, but stood up
for those that feel bullied and intimidated.
Republicans called the measure anti-democratic and warned it will result in large swaths
of the state losing their voice in Congress.

cargo plane crashed near the airport in Louisville, Kentucky Tuesday, killing at least seven people
and injuring 11 others. As NPR's Joel Rose reports, the crash occurred shortly after
takeoff, causing a fiery explosion. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said the UPS cargo plane crashed
at about 5.14 p.m. local time. Anybody who has seen the images in the video know how violent
this crash is.
Bashir said the fate of the three UPS crew members was not immediately known.
He said the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 was bound for Honolulu
with about 38,000 gallons of jet fuel on board.
Video footage of the crash appeared to show the left engine on fire
as the plane struggled to lift off from the runway,
followed by a massive explosion.
The National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says a Listeria outbreak linked to prepared pasta meals
as resulted in six deaths and sickened 27 people in 18 states.
The pasta was sold at grocery chains across the nation.
The CDC says the outbreak began in June, prompting recalls of several brands of ready-to-eat-eachini-Alfredo,
meals that were made by Fresh Realm. The product was sold under the Home Chef brand at Kroger
and under the Marketside brand at Walmart. The Supreme Court is set to hear arguments today
that will test the legality of President Trump's tariffs. As NPR's Nina Totenberg reports,
the hearing will focus on whether the International Economic Powers Act or AIEP allows Trump
to set tariff rates on his own. The president argues that under the statute he's entitled to set
tariffs by himself in order to deal with persistent trade imbalances and to stem the flood of
fentanyl coming into the United States. Both, he claims, present national emergencies and pose a
threat to national security. But business owners and literally thousands of organizations are challenging
that claim, noting that the statute nowhere uses the word tariffs. They note that AIPA has been
in existence for 50 years and never before has any president claimed
that it grants him such unilateral power.
