Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Shea Stevens.
California voters have approved a ballot measure to redraw the state's congressional map to favor Democrats ahead of the 2026 midterms.
Proposition 50 was placed on the ballot in response to the Texas redistricting effort that created five additional Republican districts in that state.

Democrat Mikey Sherrill has defeated Republican Jack Chitterelli to become the state's next
governor. Cheryl will be just the second woman governor in the state's history and the first
from her party. It's also the first time in over 60 years that either party has won three
consecutive governor's terms in New Jersey. Shortly before 10 p.m., Cheryl took the stage.
She told the crowd Chittarelli called her to concede. She vowed to be a governor for all New
Jerseyans, whether they voted for her or not. For NPR news, I'm Mike Hayes in East Brunswick.
Socialist Democrat Zora Mamdani has won the mayor's race in New York City, according to the
Associated Press. Momdani defeated former governor Andrew Cuomo, who ran as an independent.
The AP is reporting that Democratic former congresswoman Abigail Spanberger will be the next governor,
Virginia, and the first woman to lead the state. The former congresswoman and CIA veteran defeated
Republican lieutenant governor, Winsome, Earl Seals.
Arguments are set before the U.S. Supreme Court today, testing the legality of President Trump's
tariffs. As NPR's Nina Totenberg reports, the hearing will focus on whether the International
Economic Powers Act or IEPA allows Trump to set tariff rates on his own.
Tariffs are the hallmark of Trump's economic policy, and just months after becoming president,
he imposed all manner of tariffs on both U.S.
Allies and adversaries, tariffs as high as 145% on imports from China to 25% on goods imported from allies like Canada and Mexico.
The tariffs were promptly challenged by several small businesses and backed by literally thousands of organizations
from the Conservative Chamber of Commerce to the Liberal Brennan Center for Justice.
Three lower courts ruled the President had exceeded his authority.
Now the Supreme Court will decide.

The military has attacked another small boat in the eastern Pacific.

President Trump has come around to the idea of Jack Jared Isaacman to lead the NASA.
NPR's Giles Snyder reports that Trump is renominating Isaacman after abandoning him five months ago.
President Trump heaped praise on Jared Isaacman.
In a social media post announcing Isaacman's renomination to lead NASA,
Trump called him an accomplished business leader, philanthropist, pilot, and astronaut.
Trump did not mention his decision over the summer to withdraw Isaacman's nomination.
Isaacman is a billionaire e-commerce mogul, a close ally of SpaceX's Elon Musk.

space agency came in late May amid the public break between Musk and Trump. Transportation
Secretary Sean Duffy has been serving as interim NASA chief. Isaacman's nomination requires

The Federal Aviation Administration says the aircraft was departing for Honolulu when it crashed
shortly after takeoff. A video shows the plane and flames. Cruise are still working to douse
