A federal judge is ordering the Trump administration to fully fund SNAP food benefits during the government's shutdown, but the administration quickly appealed the ruling. The decision comes after the White House said it would only partially fund food aid after initially saying it wouldn't fund it at all. Last week, two judges ordered the government to pay for the benefits using an emergency fund. The Trump administration is continuing its push to lower drug prices. It just announced deals with drug companies Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly that include their popular obesity drugs. NPR Pharmaceuticals correspondent, Sidney Lupkin, has more.

Novo Nordisk and Eli Lili's blockbuster obesity and type 2 diabetes drugs are the centerpiece of agreements announced by the White House. The drugs, Ozympic, Wagovi, Zepound, and Manjaro will be available to the government at lower prices and to Medicare beneficiaries for a $50 copay. The deals expand Medicare and Medicaid access for some but not all patients with Ombudsman. obesity, and the arrangements would expand discounts available to patients buying the drugs through TrumpRX.gov, a website that is expected to launch before the end of the year. The companies also promised that if experimental obesity pills they are developing when FDA approval, they will cost $149 per month for their starting doses. Sydney Lupkin and PR News. Federal investigators in Louisville say they're reviewing maintenance records for the UPS cargo

plane that crashed on Tuesday from member station WECU, Curtis Tate, has as more. National Transportation Safety Board member Todd Inman says the MD11 aircraft underwent maintenance in San Diego for several weeks. And we will move forward and we will look at every piece of maintenance that was done even from the San Antonio time all the way to the date of the flight. Inman also says data were successfully extracted from the plane's black box and it showed the aircraft reached an altitude of 475 feet and was traveling 210 miles an hour before it crashed. The plane was fully loaded with fuel and left a fiery trail of debris half a mile long. UPS has now identified the three crew members who died.

For NPR News, I'm Curtis Tate in Shelbyville, Kentucky. A jury in Virginia has awarded $10 million to a former teacher shot by a six-year-old student in 2023. From member station, WHRO, Toby Cox, has more. A jury cited with Abbey's Werner's claims that former administrator, Ebony Parker, ignored multiple warnings that the first grader had a gun. Lead counsel, Diane Tuscano, says the verdict is a step forward in Zwerner's healing. When the city of Newport News and its schools failed to protect their teachers, students, and citizens, we held them accountable through the courts.

Now it's time for the city to ensure Abby receives the justice this verdict represents. Zwerner was shot in the hand and chest. She spent weeks in the hospital and underwent multiple surgeries. Police in Dallas, in a Dallas suburbs say 24-year-old Dallas Cowboys' Defensive End, Marshawn Neeland, was found dead of an apparent suicide after fleeing the scene of an accident on foot. During the search for Neeland, officers said they received word that he might

be suicidal. He was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A few new records are making their way onto the Billboard charts just in time for the holiday rush, NPR's Stephen Thompson has the report. This week, three new records debut in the top 10 of the Billboard Albums chart, including the first ever top 10 hit from rising R&B singer Daniel Caesar. Son of Spurgy debuts at number four. Brandy Carlisle hits the top 10 for a fifth time as returning to myself debuts at number seven. And returning to myself is such a lonely thing to do. And pop star Demi Lovato's ninth studio album is also her ninth top ten hit.

It's Not That Deep debuts at number nine. None of them could displace the season's biggest hit. Taylor Swift's The Life of a Showgirl holds at number one for a fourth straight week. Stephen Thompson, NPR News. Messages in a bottle written by two World War I soldiers have been discovered on Australia's coast. Inside were letters from Australian soldiers Malcolm Neville and William Harley dated August 15th, 1916. Their troop ship had left port three days earlier for Europe. Neville was killed a year later while Harley survived the war.
