Starting point is 00:00:00 Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Wilman. Moments ago, the Senate voted in favor of a procedural vote to advance a measure to reopen the federal government. Under the deal, the government would be funded through January 30th. It also includes full-year funding of three appropriations bills, including funding for SNAP food benefits through the end of next September. Virginia Democrat Tim Cain says they got the best deal they could. So here we are in a situation, and this was the reality. SNAP recipients, suffering, nothing happening on ACA. The vote tonight will be full, and not just last years, but full and robust SNAP funding for SNAP recipients, and a path on the ACA.
Starting point is 00:00:43 So from suffering and no path, we've now got robust benefits in a path. If the final bill is approved this week, it would then return to the House for a vote. There were thousands of flight cancellations and delays today at airports around the country. They occurred as the FAA continues to reduce traffic at some of the country's busiest airports because of air traffic control staffing concerns. MPR. Joe Hernandez has a report. Starting point is 00:01:09 to meet up with her sister and other family members. Her flight was on time, but she said one part of her family got delayed for hours, including five kids. First time on a plane, first time on a big vacation, first time to Disney. And they had to wait in the terminal for like five hours the other day. which sucks, right, for a bunch of kids that have never been on a plane. Transportation officials say air travel headaches could get even worse as Thanksgiving approaches.
Starting point is 00:01:35 Joe Hernandez, NPR News, Philadelphia. The parents of a Florida teenager imprisoned for allegedly throwing stones in the Israeli-occupied West Bank say his detention has now been extended until mid-December. Muhammad Ibrahim is a U.S. citizen. He was 15 years old when he was arrested and has been held without trial for nearly nine months. M.P.R.'s Lauren Freyer has more from Tel Aviv. This was Muhammad Ibrahim's 10th hearing in an Israeli military court. His father, Zahar Ibrahim, says it adjourned without a plea bargain or trial date. The Ibrahims are Palestinian-American. They split their time between the Tampa area and the occupied West Bank, where Israeli soldiers took Muhammad from his bed last February. In Israeli prison, he's not allowed family visits nor phone calls. Court documents show he faces up to 20 years for stone throwing. security rules imposed after the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2003. Members of Congress have called for his release in a letter that says he may have, quote, signs of torture. The State Department says
Starting point is 00:02:36 the U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, is deeply involved in this case. Lauren Freyer and PR News Tel Aviv. Paul Tagliabu has died. He was 84 years old. Tagliabu served as the NFL commissioner for 17 years, and during his tenure league revenues grew and the NFL expanded to 32 teams. He also introduced the Rooney Rule to promote diversity in coaching. This is NPR News. Federal and state health officials are investigating 13 cases in 10 states of infant botulism. The cases have been linked to Whole Nutrition Infant Formula from the company Byheart. The company has recalled that formula.
Starting point is 00:03:13 Jackson, Mississippi was the site this weekend of the 82nd National Folk Festival. It's the state's first time hosting the country's oldest celebration of traditional arts. Mississippi Public Broadcasting, Shamir Mohamed, talked to an artist about the unique culture he's representing at the events. The National Folk Festival has been featured in nearly 30 communities around the country, but it's the first time the festival is being hosted in the deep south. Mississippi, Delta Blues musician and artist James Johnson goes by the name Super Chicken. He makes guitars from items such as electric vans and cigar boxes,
Starting point is 00:03:51 as well as an instrument called the Didlebo. Dillibu is one of the Delta's first blues instruments. It arrived from an African instrument called a chorus. Artists performed bluegrass, West African ballophone, salsa, Irish music, and D.C. Go-Go. Jackson will continue to host the festival through 2027. Ole Miss moved up one spot in number six, while Oregon dropped a spot to seventh after a close call against Iowa on Saturday.
