A post-election analysis has found that Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 election was fueled in part by support from working and middle-class voters.
He also overperformed with black and Latino men, which have all been core constituencies for Democrats.
NPR's Windsor Johnson looks at how Democrats are responding to the news.
Donald Trump made significant inroads with middle and working class voters across racial lines.
Daniel Ho Sang is an American Studies professor at Yale University.
He says Democrats' messaging was off and they need to regroup before the next election.
I think the Democrats have to figure out that policy and the delivery of policy isn't the same as speaking to people's deep anxieties about the future and need to find a way to kind of bridge that gap
so that they're not just talking about policy but talking about how people are
feeling and what can be done differently. About two-thirds of voters
considered the US economy in poor shape compared with about half of voters in
2020. Windsor-ston, NPR News.
California firefighters are continuing to work
to extinguish the mountain fire northwest of Los Angeles.
The blaze has consumed more than 30 square miles
since it began on Wednesday.
The fire is now 17% contained.
Officials are working to get some residents
who evacuated ahead of the fire back home,
but other displaced Ventura County residents are confronting devastating loss.
Susana Canales Barron reports.
The fire moved too fast, Juan Torres says, as he recalls the harrowing moments before
the mountain fire tore through his family's home in a mobile home park in the community
of Somos. This is the sound of the wind that
gusted up to 64 miles per hour that Wednesday. Torres managed to save three
dogs which sustained burns from falling embers while other pets and belongings
were left behind. After a night in the car, Torres and his family have found
refuge at the American Red Cross shelter. For NPR News, I'm Susana Canales-BarrĂ³n in Ventura, California.

President Zelensky and the Ukrainian people doesn't need standing ovations, doesn't need
to say every time that they are very brave and their fight is very important.
It's good to say that but the important thing is to provide thanks.
Ukrainian officials, meanwhile, say that Russian forces are advancing on several key positions
in the eastern part of that country.

Judith Jamison has died.
She was a principal dancer for the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, as well as an artistic director
for 21 years. As Jeff London reports, Jamison died Saturday at the age of 81 following a
brief illness.
Born in Philadelphia, Judith Jamison excelled in dance from an early age. She came to New
York to perform with the American Ballet Theater, and in 1964 she joined Alvin Ailey's company, where she became a star.
Among the dances Ailey created for her was a solo called Cry,
which the choreographer dedicated to all black women everywhere, especially our mothers.
Jamison also appeared on Broadway and as a guest artist with many dance companies.
After Ailey died in 1989, Jamison took over the company.
